Mipmaps aren't used on skyboxes because the texture is always equidistant from the view of the player
Lorem Corto Pinto e Cabelo 27 Mar, 2023 @ 12:07pm
why not just enable the mipmap? This could be good for those with weak pc
Pygargue00fr 25 Mar, 2023 @ 4:49am
okay thanks for the info;) still a great fix

I think the performance impact is minimal. The mipmaps in-game for skyboxes still exist within the .vtf but they are disabled with a flag. So performance should be no different with this fix, to my knowledge.

quick question, does this improve ingame perfomance? like when you play a match does this changes anything?

just want to thank everyone for the positive ratings. was really worried posting this fix because i didnt think there'd be much of a community want for it, but thanks! very nice uwu

thank you very much!
Pygargue00fr 22 Mar, 2023 @ 11:37am
you should really consider to put this in the official Valve git hub as well, it's a really great fix!

I'm not deleting HL2 files.
Sgt.Skeleton-Nose 22 Mar, 2023 @ 2:04am
Don't delete HL2 files because they are used in a lot of community servers
Graceful Jabberwocky 21 Mar, 2023 @ 11:14am
great now we just need to fix all the shit hats and the game won't be bloated anymore:steamhappy:

in all seriousness good job
dabmasterars 21 Mar, 2023 @ 10:25am
you can also delete the hl2 leftovers

TF2 has a lot of duplicated files that would remove a lot of GB of data if it was taken care of. Now, how exactly someone could do this as a "fix" to be uploaded to the workshop, I don't know.

Like, a lot of items were moved from "player/items" to "workshop/items", or "workshop_partner/items", including weapons, but the majority of them were not actually moved, just duplicated. So a bunch of them are still on the old paths.

This includes textures, materials, models, and such.

There are some exceptions. The broken model for the Neon Annihilator is located at the old path rather than the new path, removing it would probably, no pun intended, break in-game.

If you want to go an extra mile, TF2 has a lot of unused stuff in the files. But... sometimes, these are used by map creators, so it's may be best to not delete those.
