The intention is that map makers use the new type of surfaces for their normal maps (ctf, koth etc) and for valve to update the materials that use the old surface types to use these new ones

Apologies on my ignorance of how hammer works, But is this like an additional texture that allows the gravel glass and mud to not be so slippery? and is the intention to replace the current gravel glass and mud with non slippery surfaces?

Of course it's supposed to be. There must be some weird reason why gravel has to be slippery. However, I didn't change anything, I just added new surface types.

I don't know, but it can be disrupting for competitive play (specially when using gravel lol that material is slippery as hell and I don't know why)

I'm not too knowledgeable in this, but will this affect rocket jumping or trimping in any way?
