Replace the varangians with the scholae palatinae unit that has both inf and cav, it will boost discipline, morale, fire and shock attack but has slower reinforce speed and higher upkeep. Add special privilages to the estate that boost the scholae. Something like this:Burghers: scholae in the navy, increases influence of the estate, adds special unit capacity, reduces naval attrition when on transport for this unit. Nobility: Scholae military training for nobility, increases influence, adds special unit capacity, increases land leader shock. Etc for the other estates.
Make the varangians a mercenary groups with fast looting speed and an extra shock pip. Bigger manpower when allied or we have a scandinavian subject.
If you are planning to add some more gov reforms, add something for culture conversion since thats what the romans are known for. They were heavily assimilationist.
I disagree, the cataphracts weren't unique to the romans and they were not the only special cav unit.
I think the bucellarii (when on horseback) were more memorable.
The fact that almost nobody is mentioning the cataphracts in the thread shows they aren't that memorable, the persian ones were cooler.
They used a bow to fire a few shots before charging in with their long spears, and they were also completely armored with heavy armor.
They were called "Eastern Rome" or "Byzantine Empire" just because there existed another Rome. Byzantines still called themselves "Romans", after all.
It has historical reasons for them to claim ALL of Roman legacy and become Roman Empire/Vasileia Romaion instead.
I will rename everything for myself, but listen, "Eastern Rome" kinda cringe, you know....
Anyway, already love this mod
would make the mod 10/10
1.when i finish the "return to old glory" i lost my former goverment tier 2-4 ,and i have to reform again.
2.when i rebuild the roma empire , the name keeps "eatern roma".
