Because im having a crash with tau firewarrior movement is what it says.
This mod doesn't interfere with the vanilla changes to units after certain research, does it?
Some research in the vanilla game adds meshes to units, like an additional weapon, gunner, etc, to the base model. Since you mention additional elements like "thrusters", I'm wondering if your mod does anything similar, and if it possibly might interact with that vanilla system?
Shouldn't cause any issues.
I made many of the textures, particularly vehicles, slightly larger than they need to be for vanilla scale so they should work well for mods that scale up units.
Cleaning up the grit would probably be more effort than making this in the first place.
You're welcome to mod these textures yourself though.
Is it possible btw to have a version of this mod with less gritty textures on the units? I love the increased detail and what appears to be emissives however! I think this mod might also pair well with an increased unit scale mod with a Kill Team or Combat Patrol theme!
Chaos was one of the first factions I processed and I later fine tuned my filter settings, providing less gritty, more sharper/cleaner results.
Space marines was the very first faction I processed, so it had a similar issue, but I gave them another pass at the end with much nicer results.
I contemplated doing the same for chaos, but I figured the very gritty look actually kind of suits their faction. I was even thinking about doing another pass to add more blood stains to their units because they overall look too clean.
Necrons, I guess I could do more, but they were one of the last factions I processed, and I was just pushing to get it done, because this took a lot of time.
Observations:
- Some units are perhaps too gritty (Chaos infantry in particular just looks grainy and overly saturated).
- Conversely, other units may not have enough grit (Necron infantry notably, whose lack of detail makes them appear almost low-res compared to the now much fancier Space Marines infantry).
- HQs & fortifications are too clean (and yep, I'm using city textures), were they not meant to receive the same treatment?
Of all factions, Space Marines benefited the most (Devastator Space Marines really stand out with their fancy new gear now, for instance).
If you're not experienced with your image software (I'm using GIMP btw) you're probably best off scrubbing away the grit on the diffuse texture, then evening out the blue areas on the SIC map.
You can use the Levels tool to conveniently isolate the blue channel from your SIC map on a new layer, then edit it and overlay it again with a bit of transparency.
That way it's easy to clean up the team color area without affecting the specular (red channel).
This stuff isn't hard - I'm not a pro at this either.
It'll just take time if you end up cleaning it by hand.
With some experimenting you could maybe find some tricks with filters that save you time - that's where the experience come in.
When I remade some of the weapon diffuse textures that were too low res and dirty, I started by opening the normal map, desaturing it to get the contours and then adding my new details and re-coloring it.
That's probably where I'd start for the very dirty vehicles.
Tbh, I agree AM could use a little polish.
The blue channel of the SIC map determines the coverage in team color... looking at the textures, I think that might be the main issue for you.
I may have just left the blue levels too low on AM.
Question for you, how difficult would it be to remove the dirty look to all of the Imp Guard's vehicles? My buddies and I play with a color mod we made, and the colors really stand out on units like the Space Marines/Tau/Eldar, since their textures are so clean, but not so much on IG. This isn't a mod request, it's honestly something I'd like to do myself but I'm not very experienced with texture editing.
Just place your mods higher in the mod list to get the textures you want, or make a patch mod.
Feel free to use these textures as a base for any re-coloring mods you make if you want to.
I've still got some ideas floating around, but after processing all these unit textures I'm taking a break :)
