But yeah a LOT certeinly happend to planes both civilian and military between the wars, and the rate of change then accelerated even more during the war. We went from bi-planes to jet fighters in 5-7 years basically.

The base plane first flew already in 1927 as a trainer, liaison aircraft and dustcropper. The military versions I have made I think all came about during WW2 but don't quote me on that. The civilian ones could certainly have been made already in the 20's. :)
Like most Soviet tech from the period it seems to have been simple and rugged and useful in many different tasks. I mean upwards of 30,000 were built between -27 and -53(!) so it was clearly a successful design :)

Certainly interesting era of military planes after ww1 to pre ww2 .I think this era this plane is made in?
