I got 3x Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, loving every moment of it! I definitely need to get some large media storage drives eventually, but my current setup is doing okay for the game I'm developing and other stuff I'm doing.
endeyfire 22 Mar, 2024 @ 4:35pm
my healthy recommendation is to get an PCIE nvme 4TB. wont have storage issues ever again. also make sure you C drive is as emtpy as can be. ur pc will thank u for that.

Seriously wonderful tho! When I was first modding SE it was taking so freaking long to work on mods cause the load times were like 15+ minutes cause of using a HDD, even when I made tiny changes to the mod. When I got the SSD it was about 1 minute load times.
endeyfire 21 Mar, 2024 @ 12:19am
praise be the soul who gifted you data speeds.
Shaostoul  [author] 20 Mar, 2024 @ 3:01pm
Space Engineers has certainly been the most unpredictable game I've had the pleasure of modding. I've had it where local mods I was working on would work, then the uploaded version wouldn't work, so I had to reupload the mod without changing anything to fix bugs. I've also had it where the local and Steam Workshop mod worked for other people, but when I tried to load the Steam mod myself it wouldn't work until I verified files 1+ times. I think the most I had to verify files and/or redownload a mod to get it to work was 10 or so times.

The forever load screen is why I ended up creating the mod pack of the Master Pack all split up. For a while it was an issue for me, then someone gifted me a SSD which I used for modding SE 2014-2017.
endeyfire 20 Mar, 2024 @ 12:41pm
ram doesnt go over 47%, and also the military mod in that list borked. either way, thanks for all the insight. yall are great.
endeyfire 20 Mar, 2024 @ 12:32pm
solar panels, scaffolding, rotors, and misc. off that chopped up modlist, those are the ones that borked when added. might be a mod conflict, cant say for sure, maybe i well and truely have put space engineers to its chugging limits. which is funny cuase ive played so much of this game, maxxing out every in game aspect to the point of 10fps. getting stopped at the loading screen would be a first.
dragonsphotoworks 20 Mar, 2024 @ 12:07pm
I run tons of mods as well. I am always trying to add "just one more mod..." lol I have not had many crashes or errors so far. I might just of been lucky so far though. Most times issues I had were related to mods conflicting and needing to patch or remove one.
endeyfire 20 Mar, 2024 @ 12:03pm
i got 32gb of ram, though frankly im running 170 mods already, and while id like to say its a hardware issue, space engineers has just been one of those games that can critical error on alot of dumb stuff. its just in its nature tbh.
dragonsphotoworks 19 Mar, 2024 @ 11:00pm
Been while but dont recall an issue. But I do have a I9 13900KS and 64G ddr4 Ram. So on lower PC's might be issue?
Shaostoul  [author] 19 Mar, 2024 @ 8:45pm
No worries! I didn't think you were hatin. The link in my previous reply is a subpack set I made containing all my mods, including the ones in this, as their individual mod sets. I'm not aware of any other bug/glitch that prevents loading aside from the game having weird loading issues with mods that add 800+ blocks to the game as single mod.

Have you had any other mods cause an issue like this? How much RAM do you have?
endeyfire 19 Mar, 2024 @ 6:41pm
yeah i have nvme ssds. the mod just wouldnt load at all lol. all good tho im not hatin on ya.
Shaostoul  [author] 18 Mar, 2024 @ 7:17pm
Hey endey, so, for some reason, Space Engineers has issues with single mods with a ton of blocks. This issue is partially circumvented by using SSDs or NVMes. The most consistent solution is to download the individual mods by themselves split into subpacks such as: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/workshop/filedetails/?id=551257804
endeyfire 18 Mar, 2024 @ 5:21pm
mods broken, it disallows my game from loading worlds entirely. good luck on a fix man.
dragonsphotoworks 20 Jul, 2023 @ 9:48pm
Im excited to see how turns out as well.
Shaostoul  [author] 20 Jul, 2023 @ 9:39pm
Glad to hear it Satchmo! You're welcome :)

I look forward to the day Project Universe is properly playable. To see all the ideas come together in a single cohesive form will be a dream come true.
dragonsphotoworks 20 Jul, 2023 @ 8:50pm
Ya you dont want to clone that backfires.. But a Working model to build off of in new way is good. Dont need trial and error as its all ready been tried. So can see what need to do to improve beyond it.
Satchmo 20 Jul, 2023 @ 8:42pm
I finally got the chance to use the "old" catwalks today. So thankful that you made them available. Works GREAT and so stylish! Haha
Shaostoul  [author] 20 Jul, 2023 @ 8:21pm
It saves so much time and by extension money! Don't have to clone them exactly, but having a working example helps so much.
dragonsphotoworks 20 Jul, 2023 @ 2:39pm
Half-Life is what i think it is. And that is good idea. The more sources you pull from the more options you will have. I tell game devs all the time.. Look at what makes competitor games work. And try incorporate that into their games.:-)
Shaostoul  [author] 20 Jul, 2023 @ 1:51pm
Half-Life maybe? Garry's mod? Team Fortress 2? Not sure. All 3 are built in the source engine. I've drawn inspiration from a lot of sources; TV shows, movies, games, books, other people recommending stuff.
dragonsphotoworks 20 Jul, 2023 @ 10:06am
Lol I wouldn't of guess. But that's so cool you got idea from movie. I actually had similar idea but don't have the programming skills so gave up. So kind of like.. shoot whats other games darn name... True Life? Half Life? People can make things in game "Or outside game" and sell in game. So if have a in game version and real world version... People could buy it in game AND received item in real world. Now of course wouldn't work for all items. Don't think government would like me buying a tank or battleship hehe
Shaostoul  [author] 20 Jul, 2023 @ 9:31am
Ready Player One actually inspired a lot! The most important thing RPO inspired is the in-game shopping mall which (once operational) will be our primary source of funding. I dislike ads, I don't want my immersion being broken by them, I don't want to charge users for useless virtual content, especially considering the state of the world with inflation and what not. I personally believe everyone should keep as much as their own money for their life expenses. Fortunately this method makes our potential revenue include some percentage (like a 1% markup commission) of every website on the internet we can get affiliate URLs for. This way we can keep developing content and providing it to users for free as possible.
dragonsphotoworks 19 Jul, 2023 @ 5:44pm
Ill check that out. And this reminds me in a way of Player One movie :-) Can you imagine if this project met that...
Shaostoul  [author] 19 Jul, 2023 @ 5:28pm
Discourse is like forum software, it's pretty cool and we maintain full control of it. https://www.discourse.org/ I'm not a big fan of Discord either, performance only seems to be getting worse the more it develops and the larger the community becomes. Right now just having Discord open can kick me off games, prevent videos/webpages from loading, and even just kill my network connection entirely.

I'm not too worried about finding the right balance, cause Project Universe is technically developed by everyone. Anyone who wants to help develop it can. Fortunately I've got ~65 years to develop the game assuming nothing happens between now and when I reach 100 years old. I want to make sure it's entirely self-sustaining and evolves, even if/when I'm not in the picture.
dragonsphotoworks 19 Jul, 2023 @ 5:05pm
Your bone structure needs gravity as well :-) Balancing realism and game worlds can be difficult to manage at times. Being good enough to teach real systems... while being fun can be difficult. Lot of games when went full realisim had issue getting players as only the hardcore players would get it. So I know what ya mean :-) Never heard of discourse? I dont like discord as too many trolls end up on it. But I really want to join the discussion you got going...
Shaostoul  [author] 19 Jul, 2023 @ 10:14am
No worries! Many people have brought up your same concerns (perk of collaborating with a bunch of people.) Fortunately we're developing a video game and are able to fudge details for the sake of more accurately representing a desired area (like replicating conditions where I live for the sake of planning my own homestead) and aren't restricted to developing exclusively for space. We're including spinning rings and other forms of artificial gravity, because as it turns out, humans need gravity too, especially should we suffer internal bleeding.

I understand your sentiment of not wanting to use Discord (it kills my bandwidth.) We're working on adding Discourse (not part of Discord) and IRC to the website Shaostoul.com

It's a fun subject and I thoroughly enjoy discussing it with peeps enthusiastic about it. It's important to converse with people willing to bring up alternate perspectives, because no single person sees everything regardless of how much they wish they could.
dragonsphotoworks 19 Jul, 2023 @ 12:48am
Hmm but lot of farming techniques rely on earth gravity, atmosphere and such. So plants able to trive in space or lower G would die on earth. Same for heavy worlds plants here. The supports for plants be different... Also planetary would be better start then space.

Bah this not place for this convo im sorry. Btw don't get me wrong.. Im NOT downing your idea. Only bringing another side I see, to the discussion table. Had planned NOT to get discord again... But this topic/convo has me intrigued. Forgive if my thoughts dont come out as I intend. People tend to think im arguing or going against them often... when Im not :-/ Like in another convo im in on here :-/
Shaostoul  [author] 18 Jul, 2023 @ 11:33pm
Thank you! Project Universe has been a phenomenal experience/challenge. My favorite aspect is collaborating with many people across the globe to develop it (it's not just me, it couldn't just be me.) As for the asteroid mining, it's one method of many of acquiring resources. You're welcome to join my Discord and discuss things further there. It's all about building infrastructure for gathering, processing, refining, distributing resources on a large scale. Currently humanity poorly distributes its resources, we need to figure out a better way, the best place to plan for is the most extreme environment aka outer space. What's able to applied to outer space, asteroids, other planets can simultaneously be applied to Earth (to some degree, zero-g doesn't work on Earth.) We're avoiding planetary gameplay to start since that's a whole other monster that we don't have the staff/funding for... yet! City sized spaceships and asteroids though, that's do-able!
dragonsphotoworks 18 Jul, 2023 @ 7:17pm
And I seriously hate the text limit on posts from steam...
dragonsphotoworks 18 Jul, 2023 @ 7:17pm
But lot of the rest... doesnt really reach your goal of helping humanity. Makes it more fun but learning how to space walk and depressurize in space. And mine in space.. I doubt even my crazy off grid'er self will ever need. Talking about off grid survival, alternative farming, and power/heat production im up for. Asteroid mining.. I will stick with SE as lot easier :-) Wouldnt mind talking about the points I brought up at some point if wish. At one point I was trying to setup a website similiar to yours with out the game aspect. More a reference and training site.
But I do wish you best on your project.. you have a massive undertaking going on my friend.
dragonsphotoworks 18 Jul, 2023 @ 7:17pm
But if want it to be a survival/homestead simulation for training. Home made power sources, bio diesel, vertical farming, micro farm, high density farming, self repair and construction all good. Solar and wind and thermal systems good as well. But mining a asteroid just for fun and games. dealing with cobolt and other minerals.. out of reach. Now crafting very good. learn how to build own auto waters for plants, solar water heater systems, and lot more i could list be beneficial.
dragonsphotoworks 18 Jul, 2023 @ 7:16pm
I know feeling. I did a couple small mods for 7D2D and it became a hassle. Large mod like this... ya dont even want to think about it lol And that game sounds familiar..
Ah looked it up.. I remember now its a great idea. But kind of goes against itself. On one hand you want it as a teaching tool. Which is awesome! Farming, homesteading and offgrid which I am into actually and done some of :-) But when steer towards the space stuff and some of the mining materials difficult or impossible for a normal person to do. Requiring high end and expensive equipment. The combat I can see though... as very likely will/could become necessary. Sharing and selling of embroidery plans and such is pretty neat actually.
Shaostoul  [author] 18 Jul, 2023 @ 6:09pm
@dragonsphotoworks, indeed, up poo creek without a paddle! If it wasn't so labor intensive I wouldn't be opposed to it, unfortunately I'm in need of a stable income and modding SE doesn't offer that. I feel bad for leaving y'all hanging, but my hands are tied at the moment.
Shaostoul  [author] 18 Jul, 2023 @ 6:07pm
@Devlah, possibly? I simply don't have the time to dedicate to exporting all the models and troubleshooting everything. As it stands all my time already goes to developing my own game (Project Universe) as its my only source of income. I don't play or receive compensation for modding SE. I'm not opposed to uploading fixes if someone else does the exporting/troubleshooting. Based on everything peeps are requesting updates for I could spend months just working on SE stuff which I can't afford to do.
Devlah 18 Jul, 2023 @ 5:41pm
I wonder if this method would work:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cqpRXiytVY

If I'm understanding this video correctly, we could grab each piece from the mod, and export them back into .obj files, which then could be remastered in Blender.
dragonsphotoworks 18 Jul, 2023 @ 3:43pm
Well seems im just getting old. Id of sworn Id seen a way in past but for life of me cant find it again. I forget why but I was needing to unpack a file years ago. And some one linked some thing to me... Messages are gone since been so long so cant track down that way. And googling every thing could think of just got crap with viruses hidden in them. So after scanning few of them gave up as wont link some thing thats iffy.

So ya your up poops creek with out a paddle :-( I would offer to help but ive never touched blender. I used photoworks and other image editors only. So all 2D so I would be more hindrance then help. Wish I could of helped though.
dragonsphotoworks 18 Jul, 2023 @ 3:20pm
Ah i see now. I didnt do any graphical mods other then changing icons. So never ran intro that. But now makes sense. But if memory isnt fubaring on me I swear was a way. Ill see if memory is right or if oldtimers kicking in :-)
Shaostoul  [author] 18 Jul, 2023 @ 3:11pm
@dragonsphotoworks The .blend files (aka the source files) which are used to generate the collision mesh, mount points, etc. compiled as the .mwm's are gone. I don't currently know of a way to extract the original .blend / .fbx files from the .mwm to generate new stuff with the SEUT modding tool built for Blender.

@Satchmo You're welcome! Lemme know if they perform correctly. It was a very simple cut/paste/rename to upload the mod, but it might've broken things.
Satchmo 18 Jul, 2023 @ 2:09pm
Wow...thanks so muck for the upload. So excited to use the "old" catwalk!!! Haha
dragonsphotoworks 18 Jul, 2023 @ 12:48pm
Unless your refering to orginial file you uploaded... I never looked.. are they ID'ed some how so need use same ID'ed file?
dragonsphotoworks 18 Jul, 2023 @ 12:47pm
All the mods Ive made didnt rely on source codes. So I could just download my mod and fix it then reupload it.

So not sure about having to compile mods. BUT I do have a suggestion. Use... omg I forgot name... Ah github for your mods. Can keep versions saved as you go. so can roll back easier. And makes it slightly less likely to lose source files. Also people such as SEModder can hop on and help with a change or two at times.

He also helped me with some modding as well. So did spider "another games modder but big time dude to" and a few others here as well. Im guessing not since speak of source files. and compiling.. But isnt it possible to downbload the mod and use editors "wow memeory is horrible.. but know few programs to help scripting and such." Couldnt you pull the mod down, fix it then reupload.. though might need to make whole new page for it..
Shaostoul  [author] 18 Jul, 2023 @ 12:36pm
Yeah, it's a ton of work to remake the 100s of blocks :( I talk with SEModder on occasion, he's a good dude.
dragonsphotoworks 18 Jul, 2023 @ 12:19am
SEModder real good at that to. They have lot of mods they working on so... Might be while till could look at this. Almost every time i see them log in they fixing mods lol
Shaostoul  [author] 17 Jul, 2023 @ 10:52pm
@Mike Loeven, so I've been looking everywhere for my source files so I could actually go back and fix the corridors, but I'm not seeing the zip I saved ~4 years ago that had all my source files. So, if I were to fix them I'd have to recreate the 3D models first. I don't have the time to dedicate to recreating that much content and work on developing my own game. I think I might've lost them when my PC was infected with malware in March and I had to do a fresh install of windows. I thought I saved em, but it appears they're gone. :(
Shaostoul  [author] 17 Jul, 2023 @ 10:43pm
And now I've uploaded my first new SE mod after 4 years: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3006137516
Shaostoul  [author] 17 Jul, 2023 @ 10:16pm
You're the first person that's said this. Currently you're correct.
Satchmo 17 Jul, 2023 @ 1:55pm
Is there a way to ONLY load the catwalk from the "Master Pack"? I really like the catwalk from this specific pack over the stand alone catwalk mod.
Mike Loeven 21 Jun, 2023 @ 4:53pm
Sadly I do not but I know SEModder4 does a lot of work restoring old broken mods you could try reaching out to him or one of the other members of the modding community who maintains a lot of the older projects
Shaostoul  [author] 21 Jun, 2023 @ 2:39pm
Yeah, that's been a problem since they were made. Has the pressurization code been update? Are you familiar with modding at all? If so, if you can track down what I need to change I'll change it and update the mod.
