If anybody hasn't noticed, there is an option now in "Interface" at the bottom to scale the banners in combat, however I recommend still pairing it with this mod because the mod scales the icon when selected more and it works quite nicely.

Working perfectly as of today. Thanks for the excellent mod!

I don't know why, but it seems modifications to CoreDefinitions_Tactical.rpk don't get saved anymore and/or don't get applied.Weird bs change...

Mod still work after Tiger Patch, even the newly visible status effect icon can be seen on the smaller banners.

Does this work with the tiger update concerning new banners?
Infinite Realm 15 Oct, 2024 @ 3:20pm
Thank you so much this changed my combat experience. Without this I did not enjoy combat at all why would they make the banners so huge I can barely see the units properly when selecting and watching them fight. The banners are so bright and dam colourful it felt like a Mobile app so distracting. Downloading this mod was essential.

is it possible to have faction colored icons? or are we stuck with red and green

Should have been base game.
SunSpartan 28 Dec, 2023 @ 11:11am
Love this.

And thanks for including the instructions on where to mod it!

By the way Grumpy, thanks for this. When I was checking out what other mods you made, your profile showed that you did a Banner Saga review which I was surprised to see, so I looked it up. Thanks for the really incredible review, it means a lot. I'm the designer and writer for that game.

5) Scale (default) is the main one you want, I went somewhere between 0.16 (Grumpy's) and 0.32 (vanilla), because I am old.

6) File -> Save in the editor and close the whole thing. Now save in the Package Manager and close. It should make an acp file.

7) Restart AoW4 to paradox launcher. Your new .acp will be in the "All installed mods" menu on the left side. It will probably have a warning because it wants you to add a pic and stuff, just ignore that. Go to playsets on the sidebar. Click "add more mods" in the upper right. Your new one should be there.

8) I had to restart the paradox launcher again to see it in the playsets list, but now you can enable it.

If anyone wants a quick how-to on modifying the CoreDefinitions_Tactical.rpk:

1) Start AoW4, get the paradox loader. Go to "game settings" on the left column. Launch the "Open modding tools".

2) Opens the Package Manager. Make a file -> new. I called mine "Banner_resize". Go to the Tools dropdown and click "Resource Editor".

3) This opens a whole toolset. Don't panic. Go to file -> open, then navigate to steamapps\common\Age of Wonders 4\Content\Title\Packs\Tactical, and open CoreDefinitions_Tactical.rpk.

4) You now have options on the left-most column. Right-click "Tactical Unit Banner: Global Settings" and choose "create mod". You can now edit the fields in the property column.

Great mod, thanks for it, and thanks even more for explaining where to look to further tweak it! :)
Grumpy Old Dwarf  [author] 24 May, 2023 @ 12:52am
@mots Unfortunately no. There are only three values: default (base size), hovered (active highlight or selection) and enlarged (played during actual attack animations). So the hit% will get enlarged when you hover over a given target, but will otherwise remain small.
mots 23 May, 2023 @ 2:46pm
Would it be possible to make them enlarge when it's showing hit %? I like the small size otherwise!
Grumpy Old Dwarf  [author] 20 May, 2023 @ 2:16pm
@Jandos @apalatnikov I guess it's down to personal preference and everyone likes it slightly different.. But you can easily tweak the values in CoreDefinitions_Tactical.rpk ->Camera Profiles -> Tactical Unit Banner: Global Settings.

For reference, here are game defaults vs modded, setting Scale (default) to ~24 and playing with Enlarge factor (to) by maybe increasing it to 1.15 should do the trick. But then again, everyone likes it different.

Scale (default) 0.32 --> 0.16
Scale (hovered) 0.37 --> 0.36
Scale (enlarged) 0.42 --> 0.38

Min. enlarge distance 10 --> 10
Max. enlarge distance 30 --> 30
Enlarge factor (from) 0.5 --> 0.5
Enlarge factor (to) 1.35 --> 1.0
Jandos 19 May, 2023 @ 12:27pm
Great mod but I would also love banners to be just slightly bigger
apalatnikov 19 May, 2023 @ 2:57am
Thx for great mod. Is it possible to make a version with slightly bigger banners (smaller than original but bigger than your version)? Because the numbers with hit percentages are too small.
Creature of Existense 15 May, 2023 @ 9:40am
yes this one is great!. practical, simple yet exatly what we need. (you were spot on sir!)
NeonHaggis 15 May, 2023 @ 7:52am
Thanks for this, was badly needed.
アンジェル 14 May, 2023 @ 11:46pm
Great personal reference. :mhwgood:
Baleur 14 May, 2023 @ 12:56pm
Yes yes yes, the one ingame setting i was missing
Nemglan 12 May, 2023 @ 11:52am
Hell yea! Thx a lot man!

@Nemglan The eagle has landed Less Visual Clutter
Nemglan 12 May, 2023 @ 6:33am
Thx for the quick reply! This are great tidings indeed. Thx a lot for saving us minimal-ui-clutter- enjoyers! :D
Trinity 12 May, 2023 @ 5:19am
Thank you for this. I love actually being able to see past the banners now!
Grumpy Old Dwarf  [author] 12 May, 2023 @ 2:17am
@Nemglan YES, and as a matter of fact this is something I'm working on at the moment, as I also prefer to have my UI as minimal as possible.
Nemglan 11 May, 2023 @ 11:32pm
Btw. do you think it is possible to disable the yellow outline glow around selected units and remove the red color of the hex an enemy unit stands on? Thx
Nemglan 11 May, 2023 @ 11:27pm
Thx a lot mate. Now I can actually see the unit models for a change! It´s a must have!
Blackthorn 11 May, 2023 @ 4:13pm
Yesssssssss, this is what I was waiting for... You are a god!
threepwood444 11 May, 2023 @ 12:22pm
I was waiting for this very mod. Thank you.
Grathocke 11 May, 2023 @ 10:12am
This is a GREAT mod. It helps a lot in battle as it's much easier to pick a unit now. in vanilla the banners were always in the way. The devs should have thought of this!
Deon ☣ 10 May, 2023 @ 3:45pm
This is a good UI mod, it has its place for sure. Thank you for making it!
Defender Of Super Earth 10 May, 2023 @ 3:34pm
I feel like my game runs better with this installed.
Piglet 10 May, 2023 @ 10:38am
Thank you for the reply - I’ll have a look at that file and see what I can customise. :-)
Grumpy Old Dwarf  [author] 10 May, 2023 @ 8:11am
@Zero, @Olorin Thanks! I felt that having armies obstructed by these green and red blobs kinda defeats the purpose of all these fancy visual customizations.

@Piglet I have found these settings in CoreDefinitions_Tactical.rpk under Camera Profiles->Tactical Unit Banner: Global Settings

You can actually set the default scale to 0 making banners invisible unless the unit is selected or hovered over (that was my original idea), but it's a bit of a bother telling what's what on the battlefield.
Piglet 10 May, 2023 @ 7:24am
Nice mod, something I have been looking to try and do myself but couldn't work it out.

Can I ask what file or package I need to edit to change the size of the whole interface please? The smallest setting is still a bit too big for my liking as I sit close to monitor.

Thanks for any help.
Olorin 10 May, 2023 @ 6:41am
Pretty good idea, thanks !
Zero 10 May, 2023 @ 5:39am
Nice. I have been having to change the entire interface to smallest to get a similar effect. This saves me the effort of having to change it back and forth. Thanks!
