The RPG is not in the base game so I cannot set the equipment script to include it. If I did, the mod wouldn't work for those without the RPG mod. Can always spawn it in via cheatmenu or set it as an objective to obtain.

Works fine on my end. Try the following:
- Double check dependancies on any mods you're using and make sure all are enabled/subscribed.
- Check recently updated mods in past 24-48 hours to see if any have been updated. Sometimes recently updated mods can accidentally include new issues or incompatibility.
- Verify integrity of the game files.

Other than that, can't imagine why your game isn't starting up. It's not impossible that there is an incompatibility issue with this mod and something else, but that shouldn't be the case.

I actually made the Merc classes before, with both a game-accurate version and a comic-accurate version for each one. But its nice to see something official on the workshop. Looks great.
