Hi, I think this is an awesome mod but no longer is working unless it's me. I see no update going on 2 years. Any chance someone can tell me how to stop getting cities so close. I use very little players, 4 and still next to me.

I can select "Grand" map in the world creation settings but the map actually does not seem to be that big.

Thanks! 2 awards worth of thanks! I like playing long, grand scale maps on 4X games (minus crashes). The feature should be a part of the main game TBH. I fully understand and respect people who like their maps small, and their games shorter. But they should also take into consideration those of us who want to play massive epic campaigns too! Glad you see that!

One thing I've noticed though is that the game wants to spawn you near the center of the map. Is there a way to get a spawn closer to the edge/corner?

have to agree, I have a 100% mountain adjacent spawn rate since installing this mod. Every time, every setting, custom or pre-made map.

Thanks for making this, but when I play on Grand map size with 4 players it puts my capital either right next to mountains or else right next to mountains and the sea every time.

Note; I had forming realm AND scarred divide. Both of these seem to limit habitable area and maybe the combo messes with free cities. Dunno. But turning off forming realm was the key here.

No chance of that; but I also had "forming realm" turned on. I tried it again without forming realm and the free cities showed up. So maybe forming realm is the problem. I like the distance options. Well done!

@Wisdom Honestly, no idea what's going on. Just tried a couple of maps with Hostile Houses and Megacities on Farther, Free Cities are there every time. Even redownloaded Massive Maps and booted the game with just these two mods enabled. Same thing, Free Cities are spawning just fine.

There is a bug in the game, when you pick a Realm Trait but then turn it off by selecting None, it does not actually get disabled. Any chance you picked 'No Free Cities' but then deselected it without replacing it with another trait? That would cause the 'No Free Cities' option to persist.

The only thing that might would be the massive map/12 player mod. But you mentioned they play nice together. I was playing with Hostile Houses, and Megacities. As a side note, I tried again and about 25 turns in, no free cities.

@Wisdom That's... odd? Just started a 10 player game on Farther and I got my first Free City just 4 provinces away, as always. Do you use any other mods or Realm Traits that could limit the number of Free Cities?

Been playing this for a about 50 turns with the "Farther" setting, 10 player map. Have yet to meet a free city; did you tweak that setting somehow?

@Grumpy, yeah current game from last night on this new setting feels much more organic. I enjoyed your old mod, but agree this one feels better. I’ve got 7 cities, fairly large area bordering two of my neighbors outskirts and I’ve met everyone. Turn time in late game also seems to be quicker. Works well!

@Rockbou that was my reasoning, exactly. Big maps are nice every once in a while, but then you end up clicking through turns without any sort of pressure, not meeting any other lords for ages. It just feels empty. I think more room for expanding and exploring is needed, but within reasonable limits.

Loved your bigger maps mod, was just gonna keep using that one, but was playing yesterday on Distant and realized I only over ran into 3 factions over a slow game. So I'll try this one out, thanks for the mods!

Aw, bugger. Yeah I agree, it feels so bare bones and limited compared to AOW3. I was hoping to be able to build a genuine mole kingdom with it but it looks like the devs don't want us to.

@voragoski I don't think so. I've seen very little actual difference between default Underground, Small Underground and Large Underground presets. Imo Underground in AoW4 is severely underdeveloped - it should be filled with both dangers and treasure, but as it stands it's just empty space and tunnels - it serves very little purpose. And it's oddly tied to other gameplay systems - a while back I created a No Underground mod that disables the Underground completely, but it automatically wiped all Magic Materials from maps. I also tried to force all Magic Ores to only spawn in the Underground and it didn't work at all. So it seems like it's interconnected with other RMG mechanics and as such it's dangerous to play with.

@pelias117 that's... odd? The game should add an additional map space per each Ruler, then keep the spawning points at a certain distance. There are indeed limitations - if you set the distance too far the game will struggle to fit all Rulers onto the map and will most likely crash. This mod increases both values (size and distance) while keeping it stable.

If I try to run this with 10 rulers, even with Grand distances, my Rulers will still be very close? (Not complaining about your mod, trying to figure out the current games limitations.)
