TL;DR: no fixes or updates anymore, sorry
I personally disagree with the OP mods others release, like thrusters/reactors/solar panels etc, yet i accept their value and use for others.
So even though arguing that such a cone in vaccum would be realistic is of course silly, it doesnt matter much to those using this mod :-)
@ EnjoyCoke - Zero-sound-when-out-of-atmosphere-mod would be really awesome ^_^
This mod DOES provide more realistic spotlight. The spotlight cone in space is nothing what can be called "natural". Its not even natural on Earth during good weather.
You can see it only in evironment filled with some particles (dust, fog, raindrops, etc.), because the cone you see is not the light itself, it's the tiny particles in front of the spotlight that you actually see as the "cone". The light shining on the dust particles makes them lit, and so visible to your eye. That makes an illusion of light cone, but all you really see are just the enlit tiny particles in front of the reflector.
The space is however a vacuum. Vacuum = no particles. No particles = no light cone illusion.
Or why do you think you must throw some dust on laser beam to see the ray actually?
Not to create a zero-sound-when-out-of-atmosphere-mod.
How to do this?
You are in an asteroid field... meybe there is a dusty space afterall.
Like previously said, such a cone happens when the light emited from the light source gets reflected. On earth that happens with either small particles like dirt, animals, microbes etc. Both visible in air and water. But if there is no such pollution to reflect the light, then you wont see it. Hence why laser shows usually need some smoke effect in order to be visible.
Though the reason for me to dislike it is that in space you dont have enough floating materials to reflect the light in such a manner that this cone would occur.
Except when you are around an asteroid with some "dust". Either naturally or through mining.
But i do agree that the spotlight cone can have its use and looks neat.
But i am not 100% sure about the shader workaround. Also shader mods do not work in multiplayer as mod package yet, which is sad.
Any idea if it's possible to mod how far light travels from the source?
I'd probabaly want it doubled for sunless maps.
