thats because they emit their sound on the server end, while hl2 npcs create it on client

Default NPCs can't use subtitles but addon NPCs like Zippy's Combine or Half-Life Resurgence can.

i tried it myself with a hl1 scientist, yeap it doesnt work unless you play the sound from an wire sound emitter

So I've been trying to get this to work for a couple hours now and it's not working for me for some reason, I've attempted to follow the discussion as best as possible however the captions are not working for me. I'm trying to caption all the default metrocop NPC voicelines to it, but anytime they speak nothing occurs (and I have every sound file included). I'll link some screenshots of everything so you might have an understanding of it, I could also send the .lua file I'm using for the voicelines, if you get the time to help I'd appreciate it!

Also I am using this addon to get the path locations:

i updated the example file in the code that displays the usage of the line break

it looks like the line break does not fully support Chinese characters, I'll take a look at the code to see if i can help tomorrow.

Can the text be line-breaked? I used “\n” to line-break, but it seems to have no effect on the text, but it affects the text box.

The text is a bit dark and not very clear in brighter areas (Even if the color is 255,255,255 ).
