most holes would be stuff already in the game (like putting the ball into the antimass spectrometer where the crystal would go. blast pit and on a rail would have you putt the ball into the blast pit and rocket pit respectively). office complex has the lightning cloud from forest as the broken light that zaps the headcrabs. apprehension would be the trash compactor and would have the elevator floors as the walls of the compactor with you putting the ball into the grate. residue processing would feature water and the rotating cup things from forest (used in portal as the fan in the behind aperture part) as the industrial rollers gordon swims through. surface tension would have a minefield section using mines from worms, with you putting the ball into the storm drain. lambda core would be putting the ball into the teleporter to xen. only office complex and "we've got hostiles" would have a traditional hole to putt the ball into (conveniently also the only maps that have tiled floors)

lol okay maybe i shouldn't have tried to tackle this while preparing to move. forgot just how terrible the level editor is. i did finish rough drafts of the first two holes: the anti-mass spectrometer and the opening part of office complex. no gameplay tests yet, and i'm sure there will be a lot more flaws than the portal map given what i have to work with to recreate these environments.

oh well, i'm willing to share what i've got if anyone asks. i planned a 9-hole course based directly off of the in-game maps of half-life featuring different chapters. in order: anomalous materials, office complex, "we've got hostiles", blast pit, on a rail, apprehension, residue processing, surface tension, lambda core. definitely a lot more ambitious than portal

been rereading these comments and feeling fuzzy about the warm reception that i figured i may try and do another course... this time on Half-Life 1. no ideas when or if it'll come out, i make no promises... but i'm interested in giving it a go

i've currently given it a cheap fix of having the tube be the finishing hole until i have time to look into it further. for whatever reason, the game is counting the tube as out of bounds for me (which it by no means should. the ball never comes to a rest inside the tube, all out of bounds markers do not come close to overlapping the tube, and the tubes are a course feature used in the space station level) which might indicate further issues with that part and might not even be something i can fix without drastically altering the course. i'm sorry for the trouble!

the end of hole 9 bugs out. I found the right tube, followed it with free cam, and when my ball gets to the same point it gets thrown through the floor and I have to retake the shot until I stroke out.:steamthumbsdown:

First level bug, got stuck in the area around the elevator/hole and had to forfeit to move on. No way out and got stuck there on my second swing.

@Alfredo Hitchcocк @grublin I'll look into fixing that. probably just need to move the portals forward a little bit, i don't think the game expects the portal objects to be embedded into the walls

@[LPF] Telanis @Solth thanks! and yeah, it obviously isn't a great golf experience because it's more meant to be a one-to-one recreation of the test chambers. this all started off as a joke, then i hyperfixated and spent 4 days fighting the level editor to make portal maps. i appreciate the feedback!

my friend criticized your map all while playing it. i found it to be quite enjoyable. he has been banished to the shadow realm with all of my demons

very cool course, but the first portal in hole 9 can spawn you in the small space behind it & trap you, and it's possible to spawn under the floor in hole 2 and also be trapped. otherwise really neat implementation of the game levels

Excellent theming, terrific work on the design. It's not the most fun for golfing because it's a bit cramped for the camera and the level design is constrained, but that's to be expected. Definitely worth playing for the experience.

also the unfortunate news about finishing the map: i don't think i can make a full 18-hole portal course, for a few reasons.
1. this course is already close to the part limit, at around 3942/5000. i would need to remake the whole thing in a drastically simplified fashion to have enough wiggle room for more parts
2. there's not enough portal objects to fill the whole course.
3. later test chambers in portal are very large and feature backtracking; something that doesn't really lend itself well to a minigolf course

of course! yeah, in that case, i don't think there's anything i can do about it, as that would be an issue with the part itself. all i can really say is make sure you're not putting the ball too aggressively, as this causes the ball to "skip" over the hole instead of dropping in.

I'm not sure how to exactly explain this but the problem seems to be in a the rim of the white holes in it self. We tested this again in multiplayer with my friends and in long putts where you have to give 1 bar or more power, the ball seems to take a bounce from the rim of the white hole instead of dropping into it. The tiles around it seem to be fine, i think the holes in themselves seems to be the problem. Not sure if it is the placement, the game, the multiplayer or everything fore mentioned. :D Anyway, thank you for taking the time to look in to the issue. Looking forward to see this map finished. i went ahead, readjusted the flooring under the elevator, and unscaled the 2x2 hole block. lemme know if this helped!

haven't had that issue during testing. by bouncing off the corner, do you mean the 2x2 hole block or the hole itself? bc if it's the hole itself, that's probably a problem with the game. it *is* rescaled slightly to fit in the elevator room. if you're still having the problem, i can go in and try to fix that!

Holes are misplaced, you bounce off from the corner of the holes :goblin:
