Updated for 1.5, tear gas effects should ramp up a little faster now as well. It's also a bit redder to help it stand out. Any feedback appreciated :)

1.5 update is awaiting on Simple Custom Gas Framework update, which may take a while due to the way 1.5 changes how gases are rendered.

Wonderful stuff! I'm amazed at the flexibility built in by the framework, so no surprise that you've got hediff ticks running as they are.
Keep it up! I'd love to see more types along the lines of damage to body parts, like the blood, choking, and nerve agents.

War crimes sound fun. Caligula is right, Mustard gas causing chemical burns and some toxic buildup seems right, with it causing major damage if you dont have a gas mask and it gets in your eyes and lungs.
my own suggestion would be to also have Chlorine gas, which would focus on item degradation. only body damage would be though the eyes and lungs, while it rapidly corrodes weapons and clothing. this would also let it be useable against mechs, as it could corrode and weaken their armor.

Yeah, if I were to do mustard gas I'm not sure how it would stand out from tear gas, any ideas?

V-series agents and mustard gas and similar tools(Wirkmittel) for varying levels of toxicity are maybe an idea, if possible to create enough difference/simulate the effects rougly realistic-ish.

Definitely not ruled out, I've got some form of anti-insect gas on my todo list atm, currently working on a gas vents mod that automatically vent gas into their surroundings.

If you haven't seen it yet either, there is my knockout gas mod, for pacification only of course.
