Thank you for the mod! I like fighting the chosen but it always frustrates me when I have to deal with any hero that comes up. I like running with a standardised team composition but the heroes throw that right out the window. Different or unwanted skills I have no choice in taking and I have to bring them on certain missions when a normal solider would fit in better.

Sometimes the animation can be a touch jank, eg, a hero doesn't know how to hold a grenade launcher correctly, but simply having them be able to wield and train up similarly to my normal crew is well worth it!

it would be nice to have a version where their gimmicks stayed because i do still like their gimmicks. reapers are my personal favorite and was surprised they lost their gimmick.

@Ostar29 This mod exists for the exact purpose of mostly removing that uniqueness if used.

Just subscribed to this, but was wondering what, if anything, will happen for Chosen weaknesses. I assume if I no longer have any "Templar" soldiers, if a Chosen rolls weakness to Templars, nothing happens.

Or has this been taken in to account?

I tried this mod a few times, but everytime the soldier animation is bugged and they keep using the standard weapon animation when the shard is equiped.

I wish they had all their skills available by using two or three ability lines instead of one. You'd still need to invest twice or thrice more to get everything so it wouldn't be unbalanced.

@Aether It makes them into not-really-faction heroes anymore. It turns them into more standardized units for RPGO.

So this mod makes the faction heroes weaker? For example my reapers don't get shadow anymore.

@CuteSkull The midcampaign install of the plugin is the problem, this mod makes some significant changes to the Faction units, and trying to convert the units mid-campaign will break them.

Subscribing to this made reapers in my ongoing campaign go nuts, not I cant equip them with anything, also I cant make them learn any abilities. anyone know what could be wrong and how to fix it?

@溯昔言 Technically no, they can be configured in if you wish, but they are not accessible by default. Functionally, this mod creates new Specializations based on the Faction Heroes, and converts Faction Heroes into Universal Soldiers that function mostly identically to standard RPGO Soldiers.

Is there a way to create Faction Heroes at Character Pool like before? I used to load specific soldiers I build in the Character Pool for each faction, since before with the 'soldier type' option one could choose the Faction, but now the all Factions vanished from there.

@Tommyc434 That's probably from some other mod's doing, it normally doesn't drain focus afaik. This mostly just ports them as specs, rather than changing the abilities much, especially parry

Thank you for the mod - I've been having a lot of fun with these specialisations baked into RPGO! Question - is the Templar's Parry ability meant to drain a point of focus? For some reason it's doing so in my game.

Just trying the mod today running with the Commander's Choice SWO, I started with a Skirmisher faction hero, went into their soldier abilities after Gatecrasher because I wanted to see their specializations, and it showed me the specialization selection screen with... every single specialization at once, with a bunch of random ones already locked in. It's higher than the usual max limit too, and it won't let me press the continue button to even confirm the current selection. I can quit out of this screen, but like... The ''Volt'' skill in the Crusader skill tree needs Focus to be unlocked which means I can't train it.

Is this a compatibility issue ?

For maximal compatibility reasons this mod does not contain any code that touches the core Character Customization UI functionality, but there is a mod that DOES solve that issue, and that Mod can be found Here

Same problem here. Once a rookie is promoted to squaddie, I can no longer change their nationality.

@hassanrokhri31 That's not actually a class icon as far as I can tell, that's the Skirmisher Unit Icon, which, like the Reaper Unit Icon, and the Templar Unit Icon are bound to the Unit types, as they use different Units than regular soldiers.

So it's a little confusing, but there's a few things that would mark a Resistance Hero unit, which works slightly differently from standard RPGO Soldiers due to technical limitations in that they can't get base promotion SP as they start as Squaddies, but gains more SP over rank ups than regular soldiers with the same combat int/etc for end net positive.

For all major purposes they are Universal RPGO Soldiers, but there's a few small differences. Skirmishers are really easy to tell apart though, given the non-human heads.

@hassanrokhri31 Shouldn't cause any issue, aside from the possibility of a few little mistakes in regards to which selection you make, depending on setting, as the internal name is quite different and thus should not have any problems with conflicts

@Grammarsalad It doesn't technically include the Proxians in the changes added by this mod, that was sort of my being derpy and forgetting I had screenshotted them in as well, as it'd mostly butcher the charm of them by removing all their fancy abilities (which wouldn't visually work properly with other soldiers)..

Though, in RPGO's XComStatUpgradeUI Config file, Proxians can be added to the units that benefit from the Purchasable Stats system.

@Jokerke The Armory/Strategy layer Attitude for Templars is not something that will affect the tactical layer animations, and is not something I will not attempt to address, as it's a hardcoded feature in the Templar Character Generator, and not something I'm willing to touch in this mod.

As for the Faction Soldiers not getting SP on squaddie rank, is not something I can directly fix due to technical limitations, would create game-breaking problems with how the replacement of the necessity of Faction Soldiers on some Covert Actions with a Universal Soldier requirement works, however, as a workaround, I'm adding a configurable per rank boost to SP gained for Resistance Hero units.

Two more things:
1) Templars only have their default animation regardless of primary weapon (at least in the barracks, I've yet to see them on mission). Most likely all Templars only have the "Templar Attitude" by default, and they lack the option to change it in Customization.
2) Faction soldiers don't get SP despite being Squaddie rank when they join. RPGO does give regular mission reward soldiers (Squaddie or above) the appropriate amount of SP when they join.

Reapers don't have a Utility Item slot.
