Okay, this has a critical bug in it. Every time I attempt to play after loading a map with it, it won't let me start and shows every stat like population and resources all at 9999. I dunno why, but since its got these two issues in it making it extremely difficult to use, I've unsubbed for the time being.

Seems like this still has a bug in it that leaves caves and rocks behind when loading a different map. That can't be cleared in any way, and they persist in your game too.

i open the game and when in the new map screen where you first find a seed to start your next game, i see no world edit tools. am i missing something?

idk what your brush size problem is, but I also have a problem. Loading a save of the map, aka the entire point of the mod, is extremely broken and instead just makes a giant messed up landscape with strips of water

Keep reverting to original map. I do all my edits, start game, build keep, save, exit, reload and all edits are gone.

Can someone please explain exactly how to use this mod. Sometimes it seems to save my edited map but other times it seems to revert to an older save. What am I doing wrong?

If you are having random caves when loading a map, I can confirm @Screaming Pandas solution works. After loading it in creative mode you can go back and create the game in regular mode.

No it doesn't unfortunately, every time it creates un-removeable caves. Only thing that works is not reloading into the editor, so straight up make your map and save and dont re-edit.

anyone else try with the Elevation mod ? for me was a no-go it saves the map but reloads everything flat (and results in floating wolf dens everywhere) I wounder if thats whats causing some of the others to have the water wolf dens as well (basically previous elevation makes them look like in water) either way this is an interesting tool just a shame it seems incomparable with elevation

@Pinga that isn't possible in the current build of the mod unfortunately, you need to save it using this mod to load it with this mod.

Unfortunately saving maps doesnt work on the steam deck, which is understandable as the mod was not designed with steam deck use in mind.
However a fix (if possible) that would allow the steam deck to select the ability to save and load maps using the editor would be greatly appreciated.

I messed around with it some more and I need to make an addendum to what I posted previously. This below process just ensures that there aren't any residual rocks/caves/witches; those entities aren't removable from a retrieved saved map either. Additionally, a map where rocks/caves/witches are not removable breaks the AI kingdoms....sort of. The only production facilities they will build are farms, orchards and charcoal makers. They won't build quarries/mines/foresters/fisheries/etc.

I hope this is sort of helpful, I know bug hunting is a nightmare. I love the mod and am incredibly grateful for it; next time I boot it up I'll try saving a map with everything *except* rocks and the witch and see if just adding them and then immediately launching the map is viable.

Here is a work-around I stumbled upon.

1) Enter Creative Mode and select "Edit Map" like you normally would
2) Create a random map *the same size* as the map you want to load (i.e. create a random 140x140 map if the saved map you wish to load is 140x140)
3) Clear that random map (so you have a blank ocean with the desired dimensions)
4) Now load your saved map.

I found that just straight-up loading a saved map without doing the above would either keep all rocks/caves/witch from unloading like you found or the map would turn into some unholy amalgamation of E/W facing land and sea strips. I tried it with maps up to 180x180 and it worked every time for me; I would assume it would work at larger sizes as well but my coding knowledge is a 1/100 so I can't guarantee that it does.

If you have the non-removable entities or the strip map you gotta quit and reload the game before attempting again.

@Spiegel yes this is in the process of being fixed; for now it may be useful to note that it is purely a visual bug that leaves caves, witches, and stones behind on map generation (the leftovers are, as noted, not interactable and will not block buildings, peasant movement, etc.) though it is understandably annoying

I also have the issue when i try to load my maps where caves, stones and even the witch spawn all over the map including over water. If that happens there are no longer interactable. It is kinda impossible to use that map when it happens.

@Soldier 595 Yes the code sizes are unfortunately about as small as I can get them without more significant work that would take time and not to mention break old codes; it's a known annoyance but one I hope I can come around to fixing

@Blanq Yes, it does it when you change the map. What I did is the following :
- Create and save your edited map in Creative.
- Right after that, if you go back and change game mode to normal, the map should stay loaded
- Do not modify the name of your Land (Caused some save issues to me), but you can change the flag
- And there you go, you should not have those caverns

If not :
- You can first create a new land (normal) with the minimum size, so that there are less caverns (you can generate as many different worlds as you want).
- Clic on your map to use your edited map
- Do not modify the name of your Land (Caused some save issues to me), but you can change the flag
- And you should have only a few caverns

Hey, i would've added a pic but it doesn't let me so im just gonna say that there were 6 empty caves in a small forest not much bigger than a foresters range and that kind of amount consisted through all the forests yet not 1 cave had wolves

hey any idea why similar to dodgyran i created a map, but when i tried to use it there were empty caves everywhere, but now even after unsubing from the mod, uninstalling and re-installing the game when i create a new map there are a normal amount of caves but no wolves,i've tried this on all difficulties but any idea if this is an issue on the mods end or just something i've done? Than

Nevermind, after testing, I found out that not renaming the City when you start the game allows you to save your progress without issue. Thanks again !

@FC InThePocket yeah this is a known issue with New Lands afaik; I can look into resolving the incompatibility from my end as much as I can but if I remember correctly the issue is that New Lands saves can't be loaded without having New Lands installed and this mod works by internally creating and loading saves (which is one of the very limited number of ways mods are allowed to read/write files due to risk of malware finding its way into the workshop) -- so it might end up at an impasse unfortunately. I'll look into it tho.

I do have a bunch of other mods, so I'll tried to clean this.
It appears it works fine after removing New Lands.
Do you think you would have a solution to make both mods work together ?

Also, I cannot load a map that has been proviously created with New Lands after removing the mod. The problem must come from New Lands, and not your mod ...

@FC InThePocket I'm not sure it seems I'm not able to reproduce this; the save system works on my end. Do you have any other mods installed and if so, could you list them? Also, does the save appear in the map list (click the three bars to open) and not open when clicked (you have to click the image of the map btw) or does it not appear?

@Agentfox It seems the save system does not work. I created a map and started to play. After launching again the game, the save won't open. Did I do something wrong ?

it seems that whenever i have the mod on, every map i make has wolf dens or caves scattered all across the map, including over all the water. it is the same result depending on all the map settings i choose. it also did this to an already existing save, placing caves all over the map. i didn't catch whether caves were placed over existing structures. i also have beta new lands 1.8 mod, but the maps work fine without map editor installed.

The map on the cover is not naturally generated, it was created by Hobbiefox | Pastrycat prior to creation of this mod (large part of its inspiration actually) so it cannot be shared; though maps you make while using this mod can be!
