You can't actually get another spirit pet if one of your legacy hero already has one, just like every theme in the game. Devmode event pickers confirms this : you'll get the failure message "theme_petFireSpirit : a hero already has that theme", even if the spirit you freed is of a different type.

@kidhedera: Whoops! Yes, those are files for WIP abilities, I must have accidentally left them in. I will correct it.

by "letting a spirit go" does that mean the option where u obtain the legacy points? :)

I made a version for personal use where I deleted the extra files and to make the other spirits match the fire spirits 'immune to fire' buff I added the following:
Shadow Spirit: immune to compulsion
Stone Spirit: immune to knockback
Water Spirit: immune to corruption
Leaf spirit: immune to poison

The abilities did look fun tho, so I hope you release a version with them fully implemented. :)

I really like this mod, but I think the current uploaded version is a WIP with some incomplete features?
I got a fire spirit pet and it had some extra abilities that weren't quite right (an upgrade card for example) and when I took a look in the mod there were plant themed abilities attached to the water spirit as well as the fire spirit.

-The event "A New Friend" can only occur 1 time per campaign. But if one of your heroes got a fire spirit pet in a previous campaign, they won't block another hero from getting the pet in your current campaign. (That's how all vanilla pets/themes work, btw)

-If your hero already has a pet, it will not be eligible to get an elemental spirit pet. All vanilla pets work that way, they don't replace each other.

-The event can occur after a battle if none of your heroes died or were maimed. (It doesn't have to be the battle where you caught the spirit, FYI, it can happen after future battles as long as you don't use a spirit to enchant a weapon in the meantime). BUT the game doesn't always show a victory comic after a battle, and when it does, the event "A New Friend" for this mod is just one of the possible events that could be shown. I'm not sure what the exact odds are.

What's the chance of the event happening? If I have a character with a <fire> elemental pet, does that block another from getting a <leaf> pet? Does the character catching the elemental need to not have a pet for the event to fire?

@zobzob: Hmm, I'm wondering if this might be caused by freeing both a stone spirit and a water spirit in the past, but then somehow the event is getting mixed up on which one to give you. I know that I personally got a water spirit like normal on one of my characters, so it must only happen if you have 2 "spirit freed" aspects lined up.

Little bug report. My hero let go a water spirit. Got the event with the water spirit. Now he has a stone spirit has a pet.

@stevenchipps: No, there are not pet upgrade abilities for these pets. I honestly didn't even think about it.

I've been using this mod for a while, and rest-assured I did get the "New Friend" event once, so it's definitely working, but I have a question. Is there actually a pet upgrade skill that comes with this mod? like how all the pets in the game now have the skill upgrade since that one update. Thank you for your contribution to the Wildermyth modding community, especially how everything has been pretty quiet lately...

Rest assured that I verified the functionality thoroughly while testing, and I also randomly got a Water spirit pet while playing a game just for fun, so I know it works. You could try save-scumming for the event?

Eh the "Event Appearing" is activated by default and i let the spirits go after everyfight but it never fired.

Besides i started multiple campaigns and finished those never got said event.

And none of my Heroes have a Pet.

@Xherdos: Also, you must enable the mod in a new game and check the "events" box next to it. You won't ever get the event if you install the mod on an existing game.

@Xherdos: There is no % chance assigned. However, the event is a "mission victory" event, which is chosen randomly from among all available mission victory events. Also, the game doesn't always give you an event on mission victory. Additionally, you must meet these conditions:

1) Your hero does NOT currently have a pet
2) Your hero lets a spirit go after catching them

Then, when the battle is over, there is a chance for the "New Friend" event to appear.

One thing you can do is save the game on the final turn of the battle, and then reload if you don't get the event.

Looks very nice have it installed and activated but i guess the chance is very, very low :D

Love this idea, thanks for the mod! This does bring the question to my mind though, will we ever see monster taming mods for Wildermyth? Something that either adds monsters or more spirits that can be captured and turned into weapons/freed... or something that introduces a new mage specialization that allows the mage to tame existing enemies similar to this mod
