Could you use the expanded vehicles upgrade system to add some frontal spikes, reinforced(existant) windshield and maybe a recon suite?

Thanks for the report, there's probably something I need to set that isn't, or some other change I need to review. I did play some last night anyway and the car seems to work but I'll take a look as soon as I can.

It is. I should probably tether it to an existing research item, rather than its own, to keep the clutter down - probably Machining. Update coming soon.

ive been running a solo pawn with no starting research. i've barely started with medieval research, and i could build this when i installed the mod, back when i was working on neolithic research. im pretty sure this is available to build with no research at all, actually. just letting you know

I do ... it's called "Boats" - by SmashPhil, actually, who wrote the new Vehicle Framework. I've already been fooling with it a bit and will probably ask him if I can officially continue it soon.

I remember there being an old boat mod with working ships, but I can't remember it in any detail but that. Do you know the mod I'm talking about, and if so could you work your magic?
