Just built a fresh new grid & tried on an old map, works fine in both. Get a screen shot and share a link, best to post in the Forums and I'll see it and respond there with anything I see awry.
Be sure you only have "one" daylight sensor on that network, if you have more than one then you may be getting mixed input values that'll mess with the alignment.
You'd need to create a 2nd solar panel string that would be isolated from the other solar string and build on the underside so that those panels worked on the opposite hemisphere. I don't think that Stationeers allows you to rotate the solar panels to be installed in that upside down manner and is your restricting factor since you can't get the panels to face in a direction below that horizon.
Even though you're playing in a 3D space environment, the game engine still reacts in a 2D manner, so you're currently forced to accept planetary rotation and sunsets even though you're in space.
Having the script record the angles on the sensors first "activate" would allow it to reset them to the starting position once the sensor shows no daylight. This keeps the setup simple for users, while ensuring that _if_ the base runs dry of power overnight for any reason, the panels are positioned to catch the first light of the new day - avoiding any need to manually intervene (other than possibly building more batteries/panels).
