All the R&D stuff added by this mod is merely for score and show, to feel like you're adding to your arsenal in features to support your created games. This is how most of the base game researches function as well. The score is calculated at the end of the game, with more R&D done providing a higher multiplier.
I've looked into the matter and found no issues when playing through the entire game with the RPT mod enabled. Did you remember to launch the mod alongside "UltimateLib"? It is required to run it properly. Also, remember to restart your game when you enable mods.
It would help if you could go into details regarding what problems you've been having.

For the time being I have no plans nor the time to fix the issues I've had compiling the new update. I'm afraid I won't ever return to the project in the future either. But who knows, maybe if I get the time one day?
It's because UlitmateLib is broken
You can go ahead and experiment with different mods, as far as I can tell, the so called "gain xp from games" you are talking about, should work fine in theory.
Sorry, I know it's hard to figure out the best combinations for the topics, but if I were to make a guide... It would take too long, really. The data is simple, yes, but spreaded out so much that just thinking about "mapping" it, is giving me a headache... :C
So if there were ever to be made a guide, it wouldn't be from me.

Enjoy
Can you please sir, please make a "light" version with less topics? I mean... if it's not too time consuming...
I'll give you two internet pies, my undying love and a dollar tip if you got a paypal XD
I'm not trying to knitpick but the only topics I don't think are already covered in the vanilla game are "Beat 'Em Up", "Survival", "Pinball", "Fitness", "Sandbox", "Card Games", "Tower Defense", "Puzzle" and "Casino"... maybe a couple more like "Goat" that can just be a broad generalization. Like I could make a Sheep Simulator or a Grass Simulator with "Goat".
I'd really like a version of this mod with very few topics added.
Sorry again to be a jerk.
Researches, Platforms and Topics ;C
But I will consider it, I have heard this complaint before. :D
