Like the custom template more since it took more effort which VALVe clearly doesn't want.

Both variants are great, but this one is my fav. It looks so slick.

You have to consider the general audience of tf2 and with that are many players who would be bummed to see those paint colours removed from this gradient. Not really a big deal to just sell it and get a cheaper one, as in the odds of those colours you’ll likely find yourself making profit in addition. This is just the way of a gradient paint, like macaw etc, (except I’d argue less intense because Macaw Masked has ugly colour mixing and has literal full red and full blue colours on both sides that aren’t as rare)

I'd still rather have something added that has a 100% chance to look nice without having to either base an entire loadout around it or sell it. God bless that custom mapping rant though, a day doesn't go by without a prayer sent out to the workshoppers who have put so much passion and effort into some of the best looking skins, which don't even get a shred of consideration from valve and probably never will.
(sorry for deleting and resending this like 3 times I'm having a consistent spelling error)

If you want War Paints to not be shit like this, email the TF2 team til they at least do the bare minimum and FIX WAR PAINTS THEY THEMSELVES DID NOT IMPLEMENT PROPERLY. 4 of the 10 added were butchered because they refused to read the readme
(1k character limit on posts sucks lmao)

On that second point, the full intent of this skin is to it be albedo/original weapon texture revealed with a single texture bound to a gradient. texture 1, texture 2, and texture 4 were all color picked directly from the albedo textures so at the very least it would make them all consistent. Mapping will be weird in a lot of places, since yeti is pretty highly specific to be yeti. Same with the fucking stupid stickers, like how ALL of the left/play side demoman stickers were removed because xd demo only has one eye. The true version of this skin is the custom template version, but valve has shown no interest in custom mapping. They ghosted a few of us on getting the file format that War Paints use for a community made importer/exporter. So at the request of the concept artist, I made a version that reskinned one of the 2 properly functioning gradient mapped skins, and the ONLY gradient mapped skin with a sticker. And even then, I still had to make slight code changes.

Which is why I made those colors extraordinarily rare; There's like a .098% chance of getting black/white, and maybe a 1.33% chance of lime/pink. If you get those colors, you can just sell them? Cases are gambling, that's what you get for playing the lottery.

I understand that it's meant to be based off of paints, but my point is that any gradient rolls that get one of those colors is just going to make the weapon look ugly when place into a loadout that isn't centered around the specific color. The wording that it's a bunch of random colors was definitely a mistake, and I think it'd be a lot more realistic to say a bunch of colors based off of a system that didn't regard the style of the game that said system was being put into.

For the white part, that's definitely understandable, and I did not realize that was an issue with this base. I do definitely think the textures juxtapose against each other though, and the warpaint system being extremely limited at points does not mend the fact that the result is going to look a lot worse due to being limited.

The original intent of this skin is to combo the paint colors with the colors of your loadout, cutting colors like pink/lime/black/white arbitrarily would both a) be an awful idea for the people who want to combo with those loadouts and b) be incredibly stupid, especially since I already made them rare to encounter. So no, it's not just "a bunch of random colors", they're literally sampled directly from TF2

The solid white internally has a texture scale of 1.0, making most if not ALL texturing impossible to see. Even the original template has that problem if you look at yeti_white. I tried my best with what is possible without making too many changes, and I already had to make some for it to even work how I wanted it to.

It is intended to be every single paint color directly from TF2.

Definitely not a fan of the fact the gradient just throws a bunch of random colors in, some of them are nice but some others just look really bad, like the black, lime, pink, light green, yellow green, and light yellow ones. I also wish there were more going on with the white textures because they really make the pattern texture pop due to how bland they look in comparison. Overall this look pretty nice though, especially the custom template one, but if you're going for a version that is likely to make it in-game then I think this could still use some improvements.

35 years without a custom coded warpaint... think about what that does to a man...
