As for your idea.. Speaking of shields, I might make a new one in this mod's theme!
Maybe I could do some sort of shrapnel gun that fires disruptive scrap or something, haha.

it appears the Deck Artillery has not been implemented despite the change notes saying otherwise. idk if this means the mod hasn't updated itself yet or if there is a bug.
@kOiGuh - I don't backport to older versions, and I don't think this does.

(Although, vanilla ships don't actually have explosive power; they're just very penetrative. Hmm!)
Essentially, the Chaingun doesn't actually fire projectiles unlike the Point Defense or Cannon.
Instead, it fires a very short-lived beam that looks like a bullet but actually works on the Ion Beam code.
A smaller chaingun WOULD be pretty cool. No armored shell or anything, but much cheaper and lighter
but you know, basic munitions first
An interesting point about the deck railgun idea;
- You wouldn't be able to lengthen the barrel anymore, since it's mounted on the roof and not the ship.
