They only didn't do Halloween restrictions once, and that was last Halloween.

Also you can already do just that with other cosmetics

listen man, if Valve still did Halloween restrictions i wouldn't care, but they don't do that anymore, so having the option to basically remove demomans head and paint it bright neon is just not a good idea

In my eyes, having the main style be the only version with a paint-region would make this item much more unique, in that it can cover styles that fit into both the creative and the mundane. Leave these two styles alone, or discipline the paint region in a way that gives it the same significance as the first style's paint region.
GoEatATowel 26 Sep, 2023 @ 4:00pm
While that's all good and true, it steers away from what the item is supposed to be. In fact, I don't think the intention of this style and the plain style are as realized nor as justifiable as the main style. The main style with its paint region actually makes sense, and the example loadouts look the most consistent in what direction the first style was supposed to go. Red paint? A demon loadout, perfect. Neon pink? Rave demo, checks out.

What direction is a fully painted bright green balaclava supposed to go? Does it have anything to do with balaclavas? As far as I can see, from the example given here, the only intention was to make this mask make you look like something else than a guy wearing a balaclava (the yoda loadout is a great example of this).

@Feesh
Indeed. Sacrificing paint regions just because some paints don't fit is not worth the trouble.

Many Hair/Beard cosmetics i can see why creators make paintable, as most of them fit well with paints that are closer to natural hair colors.
hipposeducer28 25 Sep, 2023 @ 2:54pm
I still don't think the downsides outweigh the upsides of having it paintable like this. Yeah, some people will run around with bright colors on it, but the people who are gonna do that are already running around with those colors on other cosmetics. People shouldn't have to give up using nice paints just because bad paints exist.
GoEatATowel 24 Sep, 2023 @ 9:06pm
True, but there's a lot lost in the mask when you paint the whole thing a bright, super-saturated color. For instance, if the paint region (if it really needs one) was reduced from the whole mask to the stripes and slightly faded, it might work a bit better for retaining the original intention for the mask.
Edit: The same concept can be applied to the other styles, too. Have the accessory to the object be the paintable thing rather than just slapping a coat of headache to the whole thing.

also, making it entirely unpaintable screws over the people who don't paint it gaudy colors, it shouldn't be our fault that people want to paint it gross pink, nor should we remove that option because there are people who would want to paint it a more tame or neutral color
Ted Beneke  [author] 24 Sep, 2023 @ 9:01pm
I wanna paint it tho
GoEatATowel 24 Sep, 2023 @ 8:31pm
Just make this not a paintable item. It's very simple not to give into what people with bad taste want to do with good looking items.
hipposeducer28 24 Sep, 2023 @ 11:58am
My prediction was not an L
Soy Bing 24 Sep, 2023 @ 9:33am
I'd add another paint region complaint comment but at this point it's getting redundant, and as you guys said, it's not easy to edit the paint color.

I guess the best scenario would be making a cosmetic that isn't paintable? Still though, this is a good cosmetic.
john stick 24 Sep, 2023 @ 7:39am
ah that sucks. nice modelling though.
VitreousGlassy  [author] 24 Sep, 2023 @ 4:25am
Yes, unfortunately with how printable items are made, you have to create a mask on which a certain RGB value will be applied, you cant alter them individually, tho i do understand Feesh's concern, it is unfortunately not something rhat can be manipulated manually :slimehungry:
Games  [author] 24 Sep, 2023 @ 3:35am
You can't really tone down the saturation of something without also toning down every other paint that could be applied
john stick 24 Sep, 2023 @ 2:11am
the best way to make it still paintable but passable is by toning down the infamous paint's saturation, like lime, black/white, pink, etc. nobody likes those being slapped on someone else's character model because its hideous.
just tone down the brighter colors then its definitely cool. dont care about the pink/lime enthusiasts, de-saturate it. please.

Another feesh L.

The paint region is what it should be - it's good. I love the item!
VitreousGlassy  [author] 23 Sep, 2023 @ 9:27pm
people complaining about paint region is one thing that is literally impossible to please, literally everyone has a different idea of how it should be
hipposeducer28 23 Sep, 2023 @ 8:29pm
Love the cosmetic, but it's almost as if you're luring people to complain about the paint region with that goblin loadout. Good god it is terrifying.
