What happens is the weapon will come out with a different quality, increasing its stats.
Consho 8 Apr @ 2:24pm
but only the textures will be broken? Will the weapons status remain the same? If so, I don't mind the textures too much
Consho 8 Apr @ 2:21pm
oh.... damn, thanks anyway. i'll give it a try and see if i have any luck
Pico  [author] 8 Apr @ 2:10pm
It will be possible, but the risk of triggering the random upgrade will be higher. This will make the weapons come out with broken textures.
Consho 8 Apr @ 1:11pm
if i have a character with the weapon smithing skill above 100, will it still be possible to make these weapons the way the mod intends?
juan domingo peron 31 Mar @ 11:21am
Ty dude
Pico  [author] 23 Mar @ 4:13am
It seems possible, but I have no experience with it, sorry. I know there are some animation mods that put objects in characters' hands while crafting.
Marrawder 23 Mar @ 3:07am
Thank you. Also... Is it possible to give a working character a Hammer in his hand? I've seen something like this in a Interactive world mod
Pico  [author] 22 Mar @ 3:46am
It would definitely be possible to do the same for those mods, but I haven't personally tried yet. If anyone is curious, using the FCS to view this mod should give you a good idea of how to replicate it for any other weapon mod that has unique textures.
Marrawder 21 Mar @ 9:09pm
Thank you for this cool mod! But can we get same thing for Cannibals and Shrieking bandits too?
Pico  [author] 3 Oct, 2024 @ 12:58pm
Glad to hear. Re-rendering icons like this has solved some odd issues for me too.
Lucato_ 3 Oct, 2024 @ 12:30pm
That worked! thanks a bunch. I apparently had so many icons from a lot of old mods i dont use anymore and it probably caused the textures to glitch
Pico  [author] 3 Oct, 2024 @ 11:56am
The weapons looked fine last time I used them, so I don't know what could be causing that. It's possible your game may have somehow saved a faulty inventory icon, since those images are rendered once and saved for future use.
You may be able to fix this by deleting the generated icons and letting the game re-render them. They can be found in Kenshi\data\icons and seem to include "5200-Hiver_Expansion" as part of the filename for Model IV. My game's Gutter Pike icon for Model IV was named "1535189-Hiver_Expansion.mod.1535200-Hiver_Expansion.mod.png" for example.
Lucato_ 3 Oct, 2024 @ 11:47am
I think the texture for Model IV on some of the southern weapons (especially the gutter pike) are coming up as black textured in the inventory screen, is that the same for you?
Taco 10 Sep, 2024 @ 8:46am
Ahhh duhh. UWE or something else must have changed the research tiers, I think I can fix in FCS now. Thanks & I love the mod
Pico  [author] 10 Sep, 2024 @ 2:50am
It will appear in your research bench, but not until you've researched the Refitted Blade quality grade as the description says.
Taco 10 Sep, 2024 @ 12:03am
I can't seem to figure out how to research Hive Weapon Smithing... is this a blueprint or is it supposed to show up in my research bench?
Pico  [author] 18 May, 2024 @ 2:28am
Glad to hear that!
Dangalf 17 May, 2024 @ 8:32pm
I also applied the same method and fixed the amors from your similar hive armor mod!
Dangalf 17 May, 2024 @ 8:26pm
I successfully did it! It was easy as you said, couldn't quite figure out how to replace the cost with something else so I just removed it, making it free. Thanks a lot!
Pico  [author] 17 May, 2024 @ 1:38pm
Alright, best of luck. One other thing I forgot to mention is you can look at the workshop pages' URL to see what the numbers for the folders are, that makes it much easier to find.
Dangalf 17 May, 2024 @ 1:36pm
Take your time, and thanks! I'm heading to work now so I'll have to look into this later. Doesnt sound too bad tho so far, so I'll give it a try for sure.
Pico  [author] 17 May, 2024 @ 1:35pm
Now that the mods are in the Kenshi installation folder, you can open them inside the Forgotten Construction Kit. Just enable the 4 vanilla files at the top of the list, then enable the 4 mods. Lastly, hit "Create new mod file" on the right and name it whatever you want. This will be your patch.
You will likely be given some errors after opening them. That's just an issue from Hives Expanded since it was made before the unfinished Whistler race got removed form vanilla. No problem.

Now you just need to go to the "Research" category and find my Hive Weapons unlocks: Hive Weapon Smithing, and Hive Weapons Tier 1 through 4.
In "Cost" you can change it to whatever you'd like, or just right click and remove it from the list to make the research free. Then, simply save the mod and load it in the game!
Pico  [author] 17 May, 2024 @ 1:33pm
I've never tried to force-unlock research, but maybe it can be done through save file editing. Shidan's guide might have something about it.

As for making a patch, trust me, using the FCS can become very easy and convenient once you know the basics.
You first need to find the 4 relevant mods and move them from the workshop folder to your Kenshi install's "mods" folder. Go to steamapps\workshop\content\233860 and find GenMod, Hives Expanded, the compatibility patch, and my addon.
Next, move them to Kenshi/mods and look inside them. The number names of the folders need to be changed to match what the .mod file is called, so for example my addon's folder should be renamed to "Hiver Expansion Craftable Weapons"

This comment is stretching on a bit so I think I need to split it up.
Dangalf 17 May, 2024 @ 1:25pm
Another thought if that turns out not to be easy for whatever reason, is there no way to force unlock the research? Through cheats or whatever.
Dangalf 17 May, 2024 @ 1:24pm
Never made anything like that but sure! If I can't then maybe I could suggest it to the author of GenMod? But sure tell me :)
Pico  [author] 17 May, 2024 @ 1:17pm
I haven't seen any, but like I said, I don't use GenMod. Making a patch like that should actually be very easy, though, if you want me to tell you how.
Dangalf 17 May, 2024 @ 1:15pm
I'm assuming that doesnt exist as of now?
Pico  [author] 17 May, 2024 @ 1:08pm
Yeah, my only guess is GenMod deletes the old item, so due to the load order it's now gone, and the research cannot find it.
You'll need an FCS patch to make this work if you want to keep using both mods.
Dangalf 17 May, 2024 @ 1:03pm
"Not enough artifacts, research cannot begin, find artifact and place them in your research bench"

When hovering over the research there's no cost anymore, before it said "Cost: x amount of Hive Notebooks. Now there's nothing, however it's still red.

It's as if it still requires the Hive Notebooks, but they vanished when I changed load order, not that they were there before either tho, because of GenMod.
Pico  [author] 17 May, 2024 @ 12:55pm
That sounds like a bug I have not experienced myself. What is the message you are given?
Dangalf 17 May, 2024 @ 12:53pm
I managed to fix it, kind of, by chaning the load order, having GenMod load after this mod. The new issue now however is when I try to research this mod it tells me I need more Artifacts? Not which artifact, not sure what it means
Pico  [author] 17 May, 2024 @ 12:33pm
I have never used GenMod. Looking into the compatibility patch, I can see that it replaces the hiver notebook with a new version, which I assume has a different item ID and is therefore not what my addon's research requires. That's a GenMod issue.

You can change this by using the FCS. The easiest option if you want to keep using GenMod would be to edit my addons and change the item ID that is needed for the research. Do you want help with this?
Dangalf 17 May, 2024 @ 12:26pm
My Hiver Notebooks are replaced with the Hive books from GenMod, but the research still require Hive Notebooks.. Can't figure out how to fix this.
Pico  [author] 3 May, 2024 @ 3:41am
The weapons which look blue and green are weaker grades of the hive weapons. Try the level 60 and 75 grades. There is more info in the description, and you can also seek out these weapons on NPCs from the factions.
leandrooleas9 3 May, 2024 @ 2:39am
How can I get the blue and green colors that are seen in the image? I only get red and yellow in the maximum range.
Tux 10 Feb, 2024 @ 6:33am
Oh my god, you're a lifesaver. The expanded mods are some of my favourites in Kenshi, and I love the weapons the Hive expansion adds, but I was always so bummed that I could never craft them myself.
Mr. Business 25 Nov, 2023 @ 8:32pm
Thank you for your work.
Pico  [author] 25 Nov, 2023 @ 10:37am
I don't know if this will work with any other mods. The most important thing is whether Hives Expanded is working. As long as that works, this mod should be fine too.

You may need to import to get the weapon blueprints to spawn among the Southern Hive if you already loaded that area, but the Western Hive should have their shops refresh on their own.
Judas 25 Nov, 2023 @ 9:42am
do i need to import? and will this work with gen mod?
Pico  [author] 25 Nov, 2023 @ 2:50am
Sure thing, the 3 Western Hive weapons are:
- Leaf Chopper
- Ring Mace
- Crescent Glaive
And the 4 Southern Hive weapons are:
- Puncture Club
- Cross Beak Sword
- Gutter Pike
- Serrated Greatsword
Mr. Business 24 Nov, 2023 @ 9:41pm
Amazing mod, thank you for this. It's gonna make my Hive settlement build great. I wanted to ask if you had a list of the weapons names so I can find them easier in the weapons crafting menu please?
Be'Lakor 9 Oct, 2023 @ 6:58am
Yes, it was bizarre that it was bugged but now it's really a damn good mod and very helpful. I hope there are more mods for the Hivers, it's my favorite breed and your mods are worth using if you still need inspiration for ideas I am at your disposal, kind regards
Pico  [author] 8 Oct, 2023 @ 1:39pm
Ah lol, I'm glad you found the solution.
Be'Lakor 8 Oct, 2023 @ 1:26pm
I found my mistake because I wanted to try it out, I used cheats to set the forge value to 200. Then it happened that it all had vanilla textures, but I set it to 80 and everything worked. Funnily enough, you shouldn't normally set it too high of the value because otherwise it uses vanilla critical values and textures
Be'Lakor 8 Oct, 2023 @ 1:00pm
Thanks for the tip, I think it's probably easy because of the level of weapons that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but it's also difficult to adapt the mod so that the vanilla textures don't get in between. Great mod, I'll keep trying and trying it out when I figure something out I think I will let you know, best regards
Pico  [author] 8 Oct, 2023 @ 12:50pm
It may be the critical success chance that is kicking in. It's something I sadly cannot remove. I needed to retry until I avoided the critical chance.

You may be able to tilt the chances in your favor if you unlock the last tier of models.
Be'Lakor 8 Oct, 2023 @ 12:48pm
I did everything as described and built the forges but every time I forge the weapons edge type 3 comes out, i.e. vanilla textures, I'm doing something wrong
Pico  [author] 8 Oct, 2023 @ 12:44pm
The wording is confusing me a little. What do you need help with?

As long as you complete the research for Hive Weapon Smithing, you should have the smithies you can build with only Hive weapon models.
Be'Lakor 8 Oct, 2023 @ 12:40pm
Yes, that's true, unfortunately it only works to a limited extent. Unfortunately for me, edge type 3 is usually available. The models are difficult to handle. How do you make it work?
