Exactly, i build the battery array in blender and did a transmission bake using cycles render. The rest is pure Substance Painter using my Marmoset Toolbag bakes.

Did you render the magazine itself in a blender and then apply it as a projection into subs?

In a nutshell I have used projection mapping to bake several perspectives and combined them into one texture. I did another pass where the bullets are pure black to get an alpha mask which created the illusion of transparency by altering the normal map.
