it adds duplicate weapons of the previously skinned weapons. these weapons have new uv maps and are placed on vanilla npcs in their vanilla groups so that new mods can influence them without conflicts, i.e. new weapon skins. The old weapons are placed on duplicate npcs in duplicate groups that spawn at the same chances as the originals, these new npcs spawn with the weapons with custom skins. The unique custom skins, I believe, can now be found in chests at a very low probability

Perhaps a silly goose of a question ... but why add new copies of these weapons instead of replacing the original reference for all of them?
