@TurtleShinobi, I could make a mod config to enable the old way to choose options (but placed on the side, otherwise the ui would look way too tall). As to the image as in a face focused portrait that would be more challenging. I'll try to brainstorm what I can do to complete both requests although the image might not be possible.

Wish I had a solution for everybody, but I don't think we can go back to the old gui, as a lot of art has been made for the new, plus code for it aswell

If I had to guess, there's a distance check, so maybe you are using journey's mode and trying to talk to the town npcs from very far away. I have been forgetting to do something about it, whoops
