So yeah, fixing the Xen stuff would definitely make this a good mod :)
- Enemy placements are sometimes obnoxious, not very well thought of and sometimes you are forced into your death and you have no more than a split second to react or youll be grinded into meat
- Xen level design is terrible, especially the platforming/jumping on tiny/oddly spaced platforms where if you jump too far or too little you'll fall off, and if you overcorrect when trying to land youll fall off too, it's quite annoying
- One of the final rooms in the final map where you run in the dark you spawn in facing the gargantua, not great, not to mention it's very dark and your flashlight doesnt do squat, it's alot of guessing and hoping you get the right path
- Prob a personal thing, but I cannot see how the "story" fits with the grand scheme of Black Mesa but I do appreciate it nonetheless so I guess not much of a con
- Xen lighting is quite bad, flashlight barely does anything it's practically useless, only the underwater portion is bright but even the lighting is bad as when you surface for air you get blinded and makes it hard to see
- Xen backgrounds are static and not much going on, quite boring
Pros:
- Music is great, love it
- Low ammo supply makes it so you have to think when to shoot and what to shoot, adds strategy to combat
- Despite low ammo supply you still get quite enough when you encounter the HECU and in Xen, mostly for your glock/mp5 and the magnum.
- Makes every bullet/rocket/grenade count don't waste em :)
- Earth portion is nicely paced
Fifth, some praise here for the story and voice acting. The story makes you feel like you are the last member of the Survey team, alone in a facility filled to the brim with hostile military and aliens. and the voice acting is spot-on, keeping the immersion and not making it feel out of place.
Sixth, The lack of ammo also had me using my crowbar, especially in the beginning where you only have your pistol and your SMG.
Seventh, I don't know if it was just me or if anybody else here had some trouble finding the Grenades, 357, and the Rocket launcher on the first try through their respective sections.
First, very long and challenging even on the lowest difficulty, not for people who are new to the game or casual players.
Second, this is just my opinion the lighting in Xen is kind of ugly and makes everything else look worse.
Third, the lack of auto saves means that I am constantly quick-saving manually, which gets tedious and annoying, especially in Xen.
Fourth, yes the rumors are true, this can make your game crash even in the regular story mode. idk why.
Except the repetitive and annoying music. However the music is deactivated in the options...
Good job
Poor guy who will stay on Xen for ever (but maybe not so long)
