Thanks, this helps indeed - I am still new to Avorion and it makes sense. And also answers the same question I had wrt your Katar-Class V2. Hmmm.... decisions, decisions...

In the builder, if you only show "Smart Hull", you'll find 3 blocks that can be converted into generators, should you want the additional energy generation. (see 4th to last image)

Looks great and might be my new girl. However, the difference in energy generated to required is just 11 GW. This seems a bit too small, would maybe need an energy mod if the other mods use a lot of energy (shield upgrade, deep scanner, etc.) - but maybe I don't understand this properly...
