mod is broken
Rambo™ 15 Dec, 2023 @ 9:18pm
Can I use this in my current save or do I need a new game for this? Also, can this be safely removed without messing up the save file?
Canon 16 Feb, 2022 @ 9:50pm
Actually you could try this mod https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2209440691&searchtext=abdicate
since it was updated much more recently
a-really-big-cat 16 Feb, 2022 @ 6:07pm
Thanks; the workshop ended up working after all.

I am having a problem in the campaign; after I abdicate, my new character's siblings are all titled as "Prince of ---". Is this a common issue?

Do you have a direct download link? My steam workshop is being difficult
Krumo 27 Nov, 2021 @ 9:01am
Seems great but as a small suggestion I think the "ambitious" trait should prevent you from abdicating as well. Maybe even you should need the trait "content" in some form.
SASNathan 2 Oct, 2021 @ 5:34am
I read this as abortion
Coach 13 Sep, 2021 @ 9:06am
Good concept but as others have mentionned before, if I end up losing all my artificats then I see no point of abdicating.. Might as well just kill myself by other means.
Rambo™ 6 Jul, 2021 @ 9:44am
Could one not give the artifacts to their heir before hand and then abdicate to get around the bug of losing artifacts?
Proctor 12 May, 2021 @ 1:45am
U will lose all your artifacts when abdicating, even with a mod that prevents this. Please fix
kripkenstein 26 Apr, 2021 @ 5:20am
does it still work?
CactusMan  [author] 25 Nov, 2020 @ 10:20am
Sadly, no
JazBizarre 25 Nov, 2020 @ 8:09am
does this work with ironman mode?
Josmans 5 Jul, 2020 @ 11:08am
this is a great mod it is a very usefull feature. But please add that when you abdicate you also transfer all your artifacts because i had a very nice treasury and didn't realise i would lose all the artifacts. It was quite frustrating.
Jaramillo [29th ID] 2 May, 2020 @ 10:47pm
@Valentine honestly if he added a few more requirements for not having bad traits it makes sense. He's probably good enough to keep around for awhile if he doesn't have any of those, and if he doesn't, he's a good guy who would abdicate.
salamander_svk 5 Apr, 2020 @ 1:23pm
To transfer artifacts add these lines to your event:

hidden_effect = {
any_artifact = {
transfer_artifact = { from = ROOT to = FROM }
}
}

Beware, abdication makes previous ruler landless. Some artifacts have "has goverment" can be permanently ruined.

Seems very cheaty but at the same time.... very fun. Good mod.
Zack Wester 15 Nov, 2019 @ 1:11pm
currently playing as a "benevolent" Immortal rules(lots of positive traits plus stuff like honest in general friendly viking) whit a good chunk of a Education warrior.
and I would love the Features to have some more flawors. one been something I see my rules doing and thats more or less the exact same thing as the mountain king.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_in_the_mountain
the rules one days leaving the trone (announced or just gone one day). heading some where secluded and just sleep (probebly a dead trigger whit the character been set to be able to maybe respawn if there is no more dynasty memeber maybe) just "kill" them would be good.
Thedanman 3 Oct, 2019 @ 6:04pm
@Espritviril`` just gift your artifacts to your heir
SuspiciousSeal 24 Aug, 2019 @ 8:42am
Does this work with HIP?
TheyCallMeVincenzo 4 Aug, 2019 @ 10:08am
You can give your artifacts to your heir, but if you could adapt the mod to auto do that if you abdicate, that'd be nice.
återigen har jag dött 15 Jun, 2019 @ 2:39pm
@Garou Just give the artifacts to your heir before you abdicate...
Teralitha 29 May, 2019 @ 6:12am
Nice idea, but doesnt make alot of sense as to why its limited to fuedal. Any ruler of any type should have the ability to abdicate, otherwise whats the point of getting this mod?
Espritviril`` 9 May, 2019 @ 6:48am
Such a vital mod but sadly when u abdicate, your artifacts won't transfer with you and when the old ruler dies later some of the artifacts get randomly destroyed while passing down to you. It would be perfect if you can update it and make your all artifacts move with you when u abdicate.
Anarch Cassius 5 May, 2019 @ 12:00pm
So I abdicated and my heir got debt, titles and the prestiege and piety went off properly but my previous character's debt wasn't cleared and she kept her artifacts... and Pacts/Alliances. The artifacts might be a feature but the others are definitely an issue.
Jacobus 13 Apr, 2019 @ 11:25pm
Update?

@malices.gossips

Best I can tell it's to prevent someone who has retired from ruling to return as your heir. It's probably trying to prevent endless loop of 2 character retiring and ruling (if your dynasty has only 2 members, though not checked). If you want you can remove it, along with pointless FROM = { clr_character_flag = abdicate }, because it's not used in any way. You can't spam it the decision, because you have to fulfill certain conditions like not have gavelkind, have and not have certain traits etc and "wants_to_abdicate" flag will prevent spamming the decision by at least 3 days. But other than that you can spam the decision as long as you want - possibly even to give all of your dynasty member the flag = has_abdicated_throne so you can't use the decision anymore. As a ruler you can't really do anything if your retired ex-ruler is re-elected to rule, so excluding them from re-abdicating seems pointless to me.
malices.gossips 21 Dec, 2018 @ 10:48am
Just wondering why do you need a "has_abdicated_throne" check for the event not to kick off? It prevented me from retiring my ex-ruler who was elected an emperor (again). Can I just delete the check from the code? The comment says smth about this condition preventing spamming abducation requests, but I can't figure out, how.
Worukan 21 Dec, 2018 @ 6:10am
I tried this and it reset the dynasty
Lord Aroven 9 Dec, 2018 @ 10:31pm
... I've actually used this to circumvent Gavelkind shenanigans with no issues thus far, beyond that it does not increase the prestige of my dynasty- likely related to the fact that I'm not dying with the titles.
CactusMan  [author] 6 Dec, 2018 @ 5:21am
As far as I remember, it would just crash the game, since with gavelkind you have multiple heirs who then all get commands to inherit everything you own and the game isn't able to process this properly. This can probably be fixed easily, but i'm a piss poor programmer, so I thought it would be best to just disable this option for gavelkind
abel1717 5 Dec, 2018 @ 9:55pm
Why no gavelkind?
Caio Soares 19 Nov, 2018 @ 7:00pm
Please update!
Ritter Ayla 18 Nov, 2018 @ 7:14pm
plz update
Volkdog 19 Sep, 2018 @ 6:34pm
there is serious problem this option can make give my all title to my son except artifact...
St4nkbootie 6 Sep, 2018 @ 2:23pm
Thank god for this mod. Currently I'm the king of Ireland and Scotland, and my son is slow and homosexual. Luckily, I'm the guardian of his children, so maybe they won't be too bad.
Meconnu 23 Aug, 2018 @ 12:58pm
Is this mod historically accurate, allowing abdications only for kingdoms historically allowing it ? (exemple, abdication was forbidden to French kings, they were allowed to let a regency govern for them though)
Or does it implement a legislative choice to allow or forbid it with a bonus/malus like changing successions laws ?
CactusMan  [author] 2 Aug, 2018 @ 2:16am
might be something wrong with your game then, if it keeps on crashing even after deleting my mod
AcadianKid 1 Aug, 2018 @ 6:35pm
This mod crashed my game. Was playing fine yesterday, downloaded this mod, now the game crashes on start up. It continues to crash after I've unsuscribed and deleted from my mod folder.
Valentine 28 Jul, 2018 @ 11:22pm
a small problem ,my father still hold his aritfacts after he retire,there are too many to gift if you collect a lot of artifacts. can you make a decision which can send all the artifact to heir when old king retire ?thx:bbtcat:
CactusMan  [author] 24 Jul, 2018 @ 7:49am
It will not
Llywelyn ap Iorwerth 24 Jul, 2018 @ 6:28am
Will the AI take this decision?
Kaiser Otto VIII of Bavaria 28 Jun, 2018 @ 7:08am
Why not for Muslims?
osornorivera 14 Jun, 2018 @ 7:44am
the option to abdicate does not work
Caio Soares 13 Jun, 2018 @ 12:30pm
Work with the new patch 2.8.3?
automatiik 9 Jun, 2018 @ 8:12pm
I think it'd be cool for an abdication feature to factions to use off of your heir/ maybe children. perhaps if he hates you/ or many bad traits
Caio Soares 28 May, 2018 @ 6:44am
Abdication PLus is work?
Comrade Icie 3 May, 2018 @ 5:41pm
i have always found myself being 85, infirm, and missing 3/4 limbs because i cut them off due to cancer, this should help
CactusMan  [author] 23 Apr, 2018 @ 9:31am
No, unfortunately not. Or well, yes it works with ironman but you won't get achievements
