Hey, that sounds like a fun project! You might have seen Spark of Divinity for Dominions 5, that mod expanded the legacy pretenders in Wild West - those include the titans, the immobile pretenders and a few animal pretenders.

As for mine, I don't have immediate ideas about powers/abilities but here's the source material - the Vulture is mainly based on Hopi/Pueblo vulture tales, the Bat is largely from Navajo bat mythology, the Creator Coyote is based on West Coast myths of Coyote making beings out of clay and the Spirit of the Southern West is based on the Shasta Coyote myth about evil moons. Spirit of the Northern West is loosely based on Skinwalkers.

The centaur pretenders are all about their magical items, so those themes could be built on. As for the humans, I guess the Priest might have domstrength/priest-generating bonuses, and the Judge might have order/unrest bonuses. I hope that's a helpful starting point. If you need any further ideas, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Howdy, i’ve commissioned a Spark Of Divinity like mod encompassing this mod and two other Native American inspired mods, me and my partner on the project were wondering if you want to have any input on new pretender powers/abilities or if you had any good source material on the pretenders that you implemented in your mod.

Very good to hear, thank you! Salem's getting a couple of particularly heinous national items in the next big content update, so their bastardry will continue unabated.

Playing MA Salem now. What utter bastards, I love 'em!

Thank you very much! It's great to hear you're having fun with it.

This is fantastic! Salem is so deep!

Yes, the event would have to be something reasonably negligible and unintrusive, perhaps an infrequent response to unrest, as you suggested!

As for LA Salem's research, like the nation, it's torn between two ideals. You can build for very efficient research if you push Salem against type and buy magic scales. Alternatively, you can dump magic scales to buy a scary bless/pretender - at which point the drain-immune Witchfinder becomes your best researcher. That gives you comparable efficiency to some EA & MA nations, though its well below the LA average - which might not be a huge concern if an early-game gambit pays off.

I also noticed LA salem has +1 drain yet desperately desires magic scales and doesn't function under drain due to their labrats being magicattuned. Is this the way you intend the nation to be? Perhaps it makes sense concerning the lore that they are trying as hard as they can to bring in more magic to undo the situation they were partly manipulated into by beings from behind the scenes. But it means almost any sort of reasonable pretender build is going to have magic 1 (barring a pretender they have access to who gets +1 magic).

I recommend when making the event not to make it too helpful, otherwise these guys would be stationed at every blood hunt prov and buff the nation significantly, but neither too punishing, else this would make annoying micro to ferry them to dump provinces. Make sure it does not show up in the messages or the province history log otherwise the spam would be horrible for something that is repeated.
bıind  [author] 16 Jun, 2024 @ 3:46pm
@crawlers Thanks very much for this feedback, I'll correct those oversights in a hotfix and replace the Executioner's popkill with a less frustrating flavour-ability for now. I very much like your suggestion about a dedicated event, I think something along those lines would be the best way of letting him execute folk - I'll have a think about that and see if I can get something workable for the next big patch.

Thanks again!

I noticed Herbert West's description seems to refer to him as being Igor. I suggest changing it so he doesn't look so obviously copied with a few changes.

LA salem seems to lack heroes entirely.
crawlers 16 Jun, 2024 @ 1:57pm
I noticed ma salem's labrat is a popkiller and thus needs to be ferried to dump provinces which seems like a lot of micro for something that needs to be recruited on mass. I get to some extent why it kills pop for flavor, but do you think that perhaps the pop killing can be replaced by having an event that silently triggers when one is in a province, perhaps giving some mild benefit (say kill 10 pop, get -1 unrest, triggers when there is unrest, or maybe just always) that does not stack with multiple present?

It seems sad that the current situation is the case as ma salem has the interesting tidbit of being the first blood nation that likes drain that I have yet to see yet playing them feels like a chore because of this issue.
bıind  [author] 21 May, 2024 @ 3:13pm
No, that's fair - I'd hoped the item would still demand the blood slave cost, which would have been challenging for these nations to accrue, but it's giving out for free. I'll make another adjustment, I've a good idea for an alternative spell for that slot. I very much appreciate all the feedback, feel free to accept my steam friend invite and let me know if anything else crops up during your playthrough.
Lordlynel 21 May, 2024 @ 2:20pm
I could be totally missing something though
Lordlynel 21 May, 2024 @ 2:20pm
you can stack so many up
Lordlynel 21 May, 2024 @ 2:15pm
Hmm I just started using dream catcher and the free dream horrors every turn might need a nerf
bıind  [author] 21 May, 2024 @ 1:16pm
I'll be going in a slightly different direction with Tayberon's mages, but in the long term I am interested in a "LA Tuhuya" and I love the suggestion of giving Tayberon Holy Pyre for the reasons you outline, I'll put that in the next update too!
Lordlynel 21 May, 2024 @ 12:57pm
Also maybe since Tayberon are a isolated Marignon colony, they could get the marignon national spell holy pyre? It wouldn't make much sense for native westerners to be casting it, since one big feature is its anti undead properties, but I think the only fire mages tayberon gets are the visitador generals, and for them casting a spell disrespectful to the tradtions of the native people is very on-brand. More flavor than a notable buff, but it seems like it might be cool
Lordlynel 21 May, 2024 @ 12:49pm
Oh yeah I though it was kinda weird that Tayberon got all the same mages as Tuhuya. My ideal way to do this would be to take away the demon-witches and either the harpies or the snakes and seperate them into a new faction (centaurs+the things taken away from tayberon) that went deep into the blood magic (maybe cap-only recruitment of wolf witches, like how patala gets to recruit the naga that were previously summons?), but any change that increases distinctiveness sounds great
bıind  [author] 21 May, 2024 @ 9:28am
No worries regarding the mod inspector, I have trouble with it too from time to time. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll incorporate an instructive line in the temp-req units in the next patch - it's going to be fairly major patch, with a strengthening of mages across the board (making Tuhuya less vulnerable to Magic Duel) and a reduction in Tayberon's magic options to compensate and make Tayberon more distinct.
Lordlynel 20 May, 2024 @ 4:57pm
Not at all essential, but a short mention in the description of southern lance mentioning that they can only be recruited in heat might help avoiding confusion.
Lordlynel 20 May, 2024 @ 4:55pm
Oh nvmd, I guess they don't. I was going off mod inspector, which has been unreliable in the past with weapons and things but I had never seen it straight up add an ability before. Sorry about that
bıind  [author] 20 May, 2024 @ 12:20am
No problem at all! Regarding the Harpee champions, I'm not able to recreate them domsummoning - they copy stats from the Harpy Queen but are meant to erase her special abilities. It might be a strange mod interaction, I might be able to sort it for the next patch.
Lordlynel 19 May, 2024 @ 10:22pm
Also btw it looks like Harpee champions are domsummoning pangaean harpies rather than western harpees
Lordlynel 19 May, 2024 @ 10:12pm
Thank you so much! I can go through mod files one by one but that is very time consuming, so having the IDs makes it much easier if I want to get a couple content mods to work together
bıind  [author] 19 May, 2024 @ 7:28pm
@Lordlynel Certainly, there's now a list of ID numbers on this page's mod description, including vanilla IDs modified for national discounts, etc. If you have a compatibility issue with any major mods, please let me know, I'll try to get it fixed ASAP!
Lordlynel 19 May, 2024 @ 6:27pm
Would you mind listing the IDs used, so people can more easily fix mod compatibility?
bıind  [author] 25 Feb, 2024 @ 3:12pm
That's great to hear! I'm working on the next nation now and I hope there's a few mechanics that'll prove even more unique.
jirizelenkajun 12 Feb, 2024 @ 12:05pm
@bıind
Thank you very much for your answer!
I like EA Tuhuya's out of fort sacreds. It changes the way I normally play the game. The only other nation that made me to build unforted temples was Ind.
bıind  [author] 12 Feb, 2024 @ 11:30am
@jirizelenkajun Hi, thanks very much for your feedback, I'm glad you're enjoying it! Scale adjustments do seem very appropriate for the titan pretenders, they are Red_Rob's titans so I'll reach out and see if he has any ideas before I make changes.

I have a plan to introduce two nations based on the Puritan settlers who eventually made their way to America, as an update to Wild West. I've only just started, but watch this space!
jirizelenkajun 12 Feb, 2024 @ 10:59am
Hi, I wanted to say that I am enjoying Wild West a lot! All three nations are very nice to play :)
Also I wanted to ask two thing:
1) Do you plan to give the added Titan Pretenders Scale adjustments?
2) Do you have plans for any more mods and/or nations?
bıind  [author] 10 Feb, 2024 @ 6:27pm
If a patch ever breaks a save-file (likely by automatic unit IDs changing) please contact me and I'll send a copy of the older version!
bıind  [author] 21 Jan, 2024 @ 1:58am
@Giggles It's a European categorisation. I'll correct it for keen eyed geologists such as yourself ;)
Giggles 20 Jan, 2024 @ 11:54pm
North American "sub-continent."

Whaaa....?
