I don't think You used Audacity or any type of audio software, did You?
You should REALLY have tried to run the SFX through Audio modification software.
Source game Sound effects should be in WAV PCM, 16-bit with 44100 kHz, usually mono, but if You use a Stereo sound, hear this.
When close-up, The Source engine uses the left channel of a stereo sound as an "up-close" sound effect.
When far-away, The Source engine uses the right channel of a stereo sound as a "far-away" sound effect.
So if You feel it is worth Your time, yes, You CAN implement faraway sounds as well.
Was it the recording software itself or possibly incredible amounts of noise pollution?
But if You have the game, is there an option for one to turn down the music and fire the weapons in a quiet enviornment to get SFX for them?
