This North korean 684 patrol boat was fought with the same patrol boat of South korean Chamsuri 357 during the Second Yeongpyeong naval battle, which was occurred in the Westhern NLL in 2002.
As the result, 6 people died and 18 people wounded in Boat 357, and it was sunken into the sea while getting towed after the battle. But Boat 684's casualty was more serious; heavily damaged and half sunked, 13 dead(including the 684 skipper Youngsik-Kim) and 25 wounded out of 50 sailors. Despite that, Boat 684 survived the bloody battle and returned to it's base exhaling black smoke, towed by Boat 388.
