That's just how armor weight works. Slot, coverage, and material all contribute and are automatically calculated. Chainmail isn't light stuff.

I am not the author of the original clothes but I encourage the idea! This is a patch for another mod - see the 'Required Items' to the right. The author has had a busy year and lots of people have made requests, but maybe if you offer to do something such as you describe, he will give the go ahead.
