turns out it was 32 bit gmod causing it, i was using 32 bit because of kinect support that i can't get working on 64 bit

i have a pc my guy, 3 monitors hooked up to a rtx 2080, 32 gb of ram, ryzen 7 3700x 8 core. what do you mean a potato???

why does gmod crash whenever you damage theese? before the sound and particles even show up gmod crashes
