The engine is not particularly tall, so you can put a cover over it and have a kind of trunk area while the engine still remains in the back. The most obvious examples of this would be the VW T1 pickup trucks and flatbeds, as the engine is still in the back of those too.

Yeah, there's actually a second picture of it in existence, at what appears to be a dealer/car show of some sort from when it was brand-new. Definitely coachbuilt, probably in low numbers as clearly none survived, at least so it seems.

I've only ever seen one 'potential' factory prototype image of a Beetle woody. There's next to no documentation on it, from what I've seen.
