Yes, it is just xml and model edits. Nothing else. It does not have capacity to crash game as xml is literaly text file that tells it what position weapon parts have since devs have a lot of them wrong.

I use RMB and open source armory too. File read error means that something block mod files from loading, either your antivirus, windows defender or some other program.
This mod had at one point in time, 40k subscribers on the legacy version, it is the same mod, only 1 dll file is not present.

I get a file read error crash with this when I go into the smithy and scroll down some. Or at least it seems to be this mod, but I don't get any crashes when I disable this one. I'm guessing it conflicts somewhat with other mods I use:

RBM
Open Source Armory/Weapon/Saddle

Preferably could you upload image of error to imgur or somewhere and post it here? Maybe some clue to what is happening.

The whole mod is merely .xml text file with few edits to part position and 2 new meshes. Nothing that can conflict with anything.

It means it cant read mod files. Either antivirus, defender, folder permission or something blocks file from downloading/being used.
You need to go to SteamApps\workshop\content\x\ where x is your steam user id and add that folder to Exclusions. You will then have to unsubscribe wait 10 seconds and subscribe again.

This is the exact same mod as https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2889662431 that was used by over 40k people at one point with just 1 file removed that no longer needed on newest patch.

This causes a File Read Error crash for me when attempting to start the game from the launcher but that may well be some odd confliction with another mod as I have a decent amount active. None with a similar premise however.
