Might be creating issues over Colonial Charter at the time people run out of tools. Will remove to test.

It may however seem a bit out of place in the game, depending on your interpretation of Banished.
While the Asians definitely had steel alloys with high carbon contents since ancient history, in the west carbon steel only really started being used towards the beginning of industrial age.

That's it for today's history and material sciences class =)

@Colosses5 Carbon steel is a steel alloy with a higher carbon content. It has some applications in certain tool types and other materials.

For a knife / Blade tool for example, it makes for a blade edge that can be sharper, and stay much sharper for much longer, and with need of less of a bevel, than a typical stainless steel.
However it makes it slightly more brittle (more prone to snapping vs bending), and it oxidises ("rusts") more easily than 400's type steel

Still works and works well!

Is this mod still working?

这个mod增加了木制,石头和碳钢工具,他们将可以由铁匠制作。
该mod允许铁匠创建木制,石材和碳钢工具。

耐用性:
木制50 /石头75 /铁(100)默认
钢(200)脱脂/碳钢300

what is carbon steel
monsterhart 1 Aug, 2017 @ 9:48am
I noticed that while this conflicts with Advanced Blacksmith, the issue is simply that the file displaying the list is overwritten not showing the other options. Simply reordering the mods while in game will change the list at any time with no ill effects.

On another note, I think Veza is right about the Durability to Cost ratio. If you don't want to implement a durability change you chould at least change the cost of Carbon Steel to [Log + Iron + 2x Coal] or [x2 Log + x2 Iron + Coal]
Terror100[NL] 7 Feb, 2016 @ 11:58pm
i wished that Carbon Steel had atleast a durability of 400 ore 300 with a speed boost
Vix 7 Nov, 2015 @ 10:26pm
Did the math, Carbon Steel Tools should have (375) durability. Steel tools have a greater cost efficiency than the current Carbon Steel Tool. From some calculations base values for durability add as follows Log(25), Stone(50), Iron(75), Coal(100).

Everything adds up except Carbon Steel whos values fall short.

Although even if the durability is changed to 375, it is still pointless due to the fact that the costs per durability is still the same(Durability/Cost), unless taking into account the benefit of time it takes to make them(Durability/time) so unless ot takes the same unit time to make per tool, it is absolutely pointless to make the higher durability tools(exempting resource ratio scarcity).

A+ for effort and the idea, but I have to say that this mod is mostly fluff, the cost of CS tools is too high for minimal gain from Steel tools, Wood & Stone tools break too fast to warrent their use outside of trade, but they have the preffered flag set so they get used instead of superior tools.

Overall a good mod, it gets my rate-up, but I do think it needs a little work.

Very nice mod, but for some reason, it's kind of buggy for my Smiths. I have a total of 6 Blacksmitsh, but only one is making Carbon Steel Tools. The others, won't make it for some reason, they won't pick up the third resource that is required to make it, so I end up crafting nothing at all.

Can I get a reply, thank you.

I just been trying this. The ran out of starter tools and I was low on Stone/Iron needing what little I had for building. So I set it to wood tools. "Wood Tools" showed up in storage, but now the npc's are runing around with "Steel Tools". I don't even have any coal yet.
Dokend 10 Jan, 2015 @ 9:13pm
anyone having the problem where the blacksmith is not making stone tools
Andreca1st 6 Dec, 2014 @ 8:26pm
I like this mod simply because the traders have a higher chances of bringing tools with them, which is really handy when your production falls behind. I find I don't really craft the new types except when I've just had a catastrophic event (mass starvation die-off, tornado) that means I don't have enough population to mine.
PolterJochen 1 Dec, 2014 @ 7:40am
How about introducing an additional type of tool which costs an even higher amount of resources but in turn lasts forever.
tsabrack 17 Nov, 2014 @ 8:03am
Sorry, because you wouldn't need more iron, just more coal.
tsabrack 17 Nov, 2014 @ 8:01am
A balanced approach for carbon steel would be to drop the iron to 1, because you would need more iron and to keep the coal at 2, because of the higher carbon content. 150% resources = 150% durability. As for the wood aspect, dropping that to 25 would make the tools break to easy and the workers would be spending more time getting tools than doing work.
Fierysaint 15 Nov, 2014 @ 4:16am
Steel is better than carbon. Why use 2x the resources to get something only 50% better. Up it to 400. Or 500 just for flying thru valuable resources so fast.
Thadom570 8 Nov, 2014 @ 9:43pm
still cheaper to just make steel tools with this mod.. stupid mod tweak carbon to at least 400 because then all this mod will do is increase time the tools wear out that is all and
Palky 8 Nov, 2014 @ 2:28pm
good
Linko 8 Nov, 2014 @ 1:20pm
Pretty nice idea

Das Claw says he would suggest a few tweaks to that mod:

- Wood tools should have 25 durability, as wood is a renewable resource with unlimited supply; and should have excessivly high costs for being completly renewable.
- Stone tools removed, as they cost 1 unrenewable resource that would be better spent as iron.
- Steel tools should have 210(105%) durability.
- High Carbon Steel tools should have 440(110%) durability.

Good.
Binch 6 Nov, 2014 @ 9:11am
Nice mod, I see you can mod stuff for this game so can you make an starting condition like the medium one but with lifestock (please sheep if you can't do random)

Tempered steel sounds better.
Molay 20 Oct, 2014 @ 8:15pm
Hello. I'd like to add to Lasarian's comment. As it stands, one does lose resources by making carbon tools. They cost 200% as much, but give only 150% durability. Either increase durability or reduce cost to make them worth it.
The rest seems pretty interesting though! Thanks for the mod :)
BabyCakes 18 Oct, 2014 @ 1:27pm
prehapps for the realism factor it should be tempered steel not carbon
botbot 4 Oct, 2014 @ 9:16pm
do you guys think that i should get the mod
Adracamas 3 Oct, 2014 @ 6:48am
Durability really does need to be increased.. or even maybe a boost to the productivity. (tools stay sharper, etc)
Lasarian 28 Sep, 2014 @ 10:15am
Steel tools may last twice as long but take twice as many resources so as it stands there's no advantage to making them. Your carbon steel tools are even worse. So until durability is modded it's best to stick to iron.
Revolus 26 Sep, 2014 @ 7:22pm
Looks very interesting! How much better than steel tools are the new carbon steel tools? How good or bad are wooden tools and stone tools?
