I'm not sure what the cause may be and it also depends if you mean completly crashing PC and GPU drivers or just high performance of Wallpaper Engine in the Task manager. Assuming you mean the secound option, in which you have very high GPU usage and FPS drops, do the following: Go to the wallpaper scroll down, from there on turn off: "ripple effect", "water effect" "fireworks" "shine" and "bloom". If this didn't help then go to Wallpaper Engine Settings you should see an option to lower the overall FPS. Turn that to 15 and disable "Anti-Aliasing" as well as "shadows" and "volumetric lighting". You could also play around with the "Texture resolution" and set it to "High Performance". You could also check this page: https://help.wallpaperengine.io/en/performance/gpu.html to see if it fixes anything.
If you mean the first option however and it completly crashes your PC, it might be the best to contact official Wallpaper Engine Support.

You can change the cursor in the settings. Theres an option that lets you turn of the firefly that follows the cursor or change varrient of it. I also added an image on top of this comment so that you can find it easily. I hope this was helpful
