Congrats on getting this in.
Also, I'm surprised the sets this time around kept their names instead of being renamed like they usually are.

Thank you :) It's nice to know that someone actually read that page of text. I'm a bit of a history nerd (because often, history is more bizarre than what authors of fiction come up with) despite actually being a biologist.

Good luck with the items!

As a half German I find this very interesting Knusperfrosch! I had no idea! It's refreshing to learn something from the comments on here.
Thank you!
Knusperfrosch 17 Oct, 2014 @ 1:56pm
So long story short, historically there were tons of Germans in Transylvania (and some enclaves still are).
Knusperfrosch 17 Oct, 2014 @ 1:55pm
(cont.7) The German Reich (1933-45) and fascist Italy forced Romania to hand over southern Slovakia and the Carpato-Ukraine to Hungary in 1938-1939 ("First Vienna Verdict") and then in 1940 the northern part of Siebenbürgen (the "Second Vienna Verdict"). After the collapse of the Eastern German Front and Romania's alliance with the Soviet Union in late 1944, these region came again under Romanian control. The Treaty of Paris in 1947 basically renewed the frontiers of 1920.
Knusperfrosch 17 Oct, 2014 @ 1:54pm
(cont.6) After the defeat of Austria-Hungary in WW1, the Triple Entente (the military alliance of the United Kingdom, France and Russia) granted Siebenbürgen to their ally, Romania, in 1918. The acquisition became official in 1920 with the Treaty of Trianon. The Romanian majority now controlled the new government, while other ethnic groups (Magyars, Szeklers, Siebenbürger Saxons, Armenians, Jews) faced discrimination, dispossessions of land, expropriation, restrictions of access to institutions, and an agrarian reform of 1921 that mainly affected the Magyar/Hungarian landed nobility. Many Magyars emmigrated into Hungary, while Romania encouraged settlement of ethnic Romanians in Siebenbürgen.
(cont.)
Knusperfrosch 17 Oct, 2014 @ 1:53pm
(cont5) The year 1848 saw multiple revolutions all over Europe. In Siebenbürgen, the Magyars revolted against Habsburg rule and proclaimed a reunification of Siebenbürgen with Hungary. Austria crushed the revolt with Russian military help. But in January of 1867 Vienna agreed to the fusion of Siebenbürgen with Hungary (ending the 700 year autonomous status). In March of the same year the union of Austra and Hungary established the double monarchy of Austra-Hungary. A rigid politic of Magyarisation in Hungary followed, but the margnalisation of the other ethnic groups was resisted by the Siebenbürgener Sachsen and the Romanians, until other languages than Hungarian were accepted as official communal languages.

Knusperfrosch 17 Oct, 2014 @ 1:53pm
(cont.4) Austria defeated the Ottoman army at the second Turkish siege of Vienna in 1683. In 1699, the Ottoman Empire yielded Siebenbürgen to the Habsburg Monarchy under Austrian Emperor Leopold I. (who was also King of Hungary) at the Peace Treaty of Karlowitz, but Siebenbürgen stayed an independent principality inside Austria.

After 1733, Karl VI. (Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire of German Nation, Archduke of Austria and the Harbsburg dominion, King of Hungary and Croatia, Bohemia, Spain, Neapel Sardinia and Sicily) und Maria Theresia deported thousands of Protestant from Catholic Austria to Siebenbürgen and forced them to settle there. By now, Romanians were the largest percentage of the population, but still had no political rights and lived as bondsmen and serfs.
(cont.)
Knusperfrosch 17 Oct, 2014 @ 1:53pm
(cont.3) After the Ottoman Sultan Süleyman I. defeated the Hungarian army in the Battle of Mohács in 1526, followed by the Turkish invasion of Hungary from 1526-1686, Hungary splintered. The largest part fell under Turkish control, while the smaller part came under the sovereignty of the Habsburg Monarchy. The (Christian) Principality of Siebenbürgen became a vassal state of the Ottoman Empire. Siebenbürgen became depopulated by war, famines (exacerbated by harsh taxes) and looting and pillaging both by marauding Turkish soldiers (who abducted thousands as prisoners during each campaign) and soldiers of Hungarian nobles, esp of the infamous Báthory family.
(cont.)
Knusperfrosch 17 Oct, 2014 @ 1:52pm
(cont.2) Between 1211 and 1225 the Hungarian King König Andreas II. called in the Order of the Teutonic Knights to protect the area against invasion by the Turkish tribe of the Kiptschak. During the Counter-Reformation (16th-18th century) there were additional immigration waves from German lands and the Archduchy of Austria, because Siebenbürgen had religious freedom.

Siebenbürgen as part of the Kingdom of Hungary was jointedly governed by the Hungarians, Saxons and Szeklers, while the few Romanian settlers were marginalized and excluded from political participation, craft guilds and trade.
(cont.)
Knusperfrosch 17 Oct, 2014 @ 1:52pm
(cont.) From the end of the 9th century onwards, the Hungarians took over the Carpatian Mountains. To protect the borderlands, reclaim land and stimulate the economy of that area, the Hungarian king König Géza II. (1141–1162) purposefully encouraged the Szekler tribe (Siculi) and settlers from Western Europe, i.e. Walloons from Flanders, Saxons, Swabians and other Germans from the Rhine and Danube river areas and city-states Cologne/Köln, Treve/Trier and Liège/Lüttich, to settle the area. The German-speaking population had documented legal privileges and founded several cities in Southern Carpathia which became known as "Siebenbürger Sachsen".

@Mini_Marauder the brony slayer:

Transylvania (which is what is the Romans called it, "trans silvania", the lands "beyond the forest") only became part of Romania in 1920 in the Treaty of Trianon. Previously it was owned by the Monarchy of Austria-Hungary, until the end of WW1 in 1918. In medieval times its name was "Siebenbürgen".

In the ancient world, the region was center of the Dacian Kingdom, which was conquered by the Roman Empire and became the Province of Dacia until 271 AD. During the following centuries, the time of the Migration Period (also called Barbarian Invasions or Völkerwanderung) in Europe that lasted until the 11th century, the area saw colonisation from Goths, Huns, Bulgars, Gepids, Awars, Slavs, and Magyars (=Hungarians).

I agree that teeth should not have a misc. item slot all to their own.

Pretty sure dr.acula is taken
ULTRAsonic 17 Oct, 2014 @ 11:35am
Spooky...
Knusperfrosch 17 Oct, 2014 @ 11:17am
@Mini_Marauder the brony slayer: No-one would want to sacrifice a whole misc slot just for pointy teeth you can hardly see in-game. No. The item set is fine as it is.

Also, "volkswagen vampire"??? You do know that Volkswagen is a brand name for a type of German car, yes?
SOBRII 17 Oct, 2014 @ 10:12am
@Mini_Marauder Dracula was Romanian, but there were vampires all over Europe, and the vapire legend actually started in Greece, werewolves too. Germany had blutsaugers , which were boneless vampires who turned people into more blutsaugers by tricking them into eating dirt from the blutsaugers grave. And yes, the Blutsauger syringe gun is named after them because it leechs health.
Mini_Marauder 17 Oct, 2014 @ 9:36am
The items themselves are great but the set name is unoriginal. Maybe the teeth could be a serperate item and call it the over bite. The joke of Dr. Acula has been used hundreds of times before so I think it should have a better name. Maybe something like "volkswagen vampire" or something to that extent. One more thing, I know it doesn't matter, but transylvania and vampires are romanian. The medic is from germany. Great work on the models though
