even on low settings, i think its becuase of the high res and dense foliage
Well the problem is that sometimes the soldiers are not aiming at the targets, and were shooting off to the sides, or sometimes up in the air. I'll try to get a video clip
Also fix the AI please, the Soldiers at the range were firing at me and I died.
I also tried playing this campaign with the Wargame mod and it works pretty well, of course units have to be recruited through the context menu but they control just fine and tasks are completed normally. I only recommend not to create convoys, trucks tend to get stuck for no reason. Anyway player has way more control over the units than in normal High Command mode.
The Panzer IV was the most numerous German tank and the second-most numerous German fully tracked armoured fighting vehicle of the Second World War; 8,553 Panzer IVs of all versions were built during World War II, only exceeded by the StuG III assault gun with 10,086 vehicles. Its chassis was also used as the base for many other fighting vehicles, including the Sturmgeschütz IV assault gun, the Jagdpanzer IV self-propelled anti-tank gun, the Wirbelwind and Ostwind self-propelled anti-aircraft gun, and the Brummbär self-propelled gun.

IMO the training mission is pointless considering an average player already knows the basics of controlling his own unit, a segment related to commanding forces (so someone would know what to do in the next mission) would be more convenient - especially that the first mission and the one with clearing some forest provides very little forces at certain points.
