It should be applied instantly, but it won't affect anything in the save that already happened before making the change. Start a new game for the best results.

I mean loading a save file
clop1000 4 Jul, 2020 @ 1:46am
Btw are they applied only after the start of the new game, or instantly even with loading some files?

It's GlobalDefines.xml in Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization Beyond Earth\assets\Gameplay\XML.

RT Compatible?

I know those questions are old but you can easily change the distance yourself. Just go into the GlobalDefines and change the sixes to anything you want.

"7 tile away version, please."

Agreed. That would be great.

Here you go. It's where I got the idea.

is there a civ V version of this mod?
draygriff 20 May, 2016 @ 10:38am
I was wondering if you could extend the function of this Mod to "Cities 10 Tiles Away"? Thanks in advance.

solved! I unsubscribed and when i try to load the saved game, it simply mentions I need the mod
12051 20 Jan, 2016 @ 9:19am
It crashes my game when I try to load a saved game with the mod deactivated.
I had it on for a while then decided to see if the AI would fill some city radius free land.
So I saved, deactivated and tried to load again: error and the screen goes black while the cursor animation and the audio keep going. Alt Tab to an error:
Unhandled Exception
Code: EXCEPTION_INT_DIVIDE_BY_ZERO

and then a whole bunch of numbers Steam won't let me paste because of their 1000 character limit

Pretty sure it's not the best place to ask this but I'm having trouble finding it on the net so I'll ask my question here.

I'm looking for a way to make it so I can settle 3 or less tiles away from a station without changing the rule for cities, I often find myself having to raze stations to expend properly when I would rather settle next to one and simply lose 1 workable tile.

I'm looking for advice from someone who knows modding enough to tell me if I could do it with a simple text edit from one of the game file, or if this would need a separate mod for this.

Thanks you for your time and sorry if it's a bother.
hawaiian_luvr 26 Apr, 2015 @ 2:34am
any chance you could make bigger ones like 8, 10 and 12. or is there an easy way I could just change the value in a txt editor, I know absolutely nothing bout code writing for mods unfortunately
Mr. BDece 3 Dec, 2014 @ 11:50am
Does it also change the amount of tiles your cities work, or are all of the extra tiles going to waste? Or can you settle your own cities closer?

make a 1 and 2

Another thing to consider is that this makes the Purity tech victory much more difficult. Assuming most of the land has been taken by the time you can build an Exodus portal, this mod will basically force you to capture and raze 3 or 4 enemy cities to build Earthling settlements in the place of.

This might actually make Purity victories more interesting to attain, but keep in mind that the other 3 tech victories are still just as easy if you just use this mod.

Just a thought to keep in mind.

This is a neat mod but I've found the 5 tile one better because it gives you some flexability. I think the real problem in the base game is that the AI seems to favor scrunching all it's cities together instead of trying to get a good amount of teritory for each city.
Tanaka 30 Oct, 2014 @ 4:09pm
Hope you can figure it out Ive been fiddling with both values but I cant seem to get it to work right to get civs to start as far as away from each other as I want and this is on the biggest maps
McGavin  [author] 30 Oct, 2014 @ 3:35pm
I thought that might have had something to do with it, but it was working for what I really wanted. I'll look into testing it over the next few days.
Tanaka 30 Oct, 2014 @ 3:24pm
Ah this also needs to be included and increased: "STARTING_DISTANCE_PERCENT">
McGavin  [author] 30 Oct, 2014 @ 3:15pm
I originally had MIN_CIV_STARTING_DISTANCE set to 13, so you could plop a city between your start and theirs, but when I tested it the Africans spawned 6 tiles away from me, so I have no idea if it does anything. I currently have it set to the same value as MIN_CITY_RANGE because it makes me feel good about myself.
Tanaka 30 Oct, 2014 @ 2:47pm
ive tried editing the minimum civ starting distance but nothing I put works? have you tried this?
Blazmobins 30 Oct, 2014 @ 1:12pm
execellent, those russians must stop expanding now!
foolexia 29 Oct, 2014 @ 8:08pm
I like this, it's stupid with how the AI complains when you settle close to them but then they settle near you and you can't do a thing other than capture the city.
c.brandt 29 Oct, 2014 @ 8:07am
is it only that the AI can't settle within 6 tiles of your city, or does it also affect me not settling within 6 tiles of the AI city?
Daemon976 28 Oct, 2014 @ 6:56pm
Nice work.
Warrenicus 28 Oct, 2014 @ 3:54pm
I second all of demdin's points
ghang 28 Oct, 2014 @ 5:58am
I think 6 tiles seems like a lot, but that's just me. Still a very good concept though, will use! Now I don't have to rush out colonists to prevent the AI from settling "my" lands.
CHAPLAIN QUOTES 28 Oct, 2014 @ 4:12am
Good mod! Thanks, but can you make a 4-tiles one?
Also, some mod to show the city expansion area when you move a settler would surely help :)
Ingvaer 28 Oct, 2014 @ 1:12am
Nice. good to have this now i dont have to murder AI's all the time to protect my tiles
