"This can be workaround by creating world with 0 secrets types" - not needed anymore
@Joe Mc'Murray - yes

An interesting side effect of this is that Bronze Colossi tend to become prolific philosophers and scholars rather than behaving like megabeasts. I've noticed that they start making a lot of scientific discoveries after they transform.

I'm not sure if it's the mod itself, or some kind of conflict, but I'm getting continuous issues with the game hanging and going unresponsive during world generation. The issue seems to be tied to when a Bronze Colossus gets its bronze mitts on immortality materials. I don't have any crash reports to go off of because the game never actually crashes due to this issue. Once I repeat the behaviour I can tell you exactly what the line in world creation says.

i found a green slab that made me a bronze colossus i assume it was from this mod

It's cool but doesn't do anything in adventure mode. I think it even breaks the ability to use mythical itmes from mythical sites, but I'm not sure

Doesn't seem to do anything in Adventure Mode, my Wolf Man adventurer read the Secret of Unbound Earthly Limitations and got nothing.

"This can be workaround by creating world with 0 secrets types."
Wouldn't this prevent the creation of these immortals in world generation? If that's the case, then these secrets could only be discovered by players? I'm really confused...

Can you elaborate on the "This can be workaround by creating world with 0 secrets types." like if I want to use this mod as well as your Predefined Necromancy mod what should I do ?

@Devil Zil Maker: I don't know, I have not tested for adventure mode

Work in adventure mode? My adventurer can use secrets from these mod?

@mend thank you a lot, the appriciation keeps me well motivated :-)

Just wanted to say that I absolutely love this mod and thank you for creating and supporting it!

@JJA726
Hard for me to support you n this case. The secrets have the tags related how they are shared, but maybe some game interpretation of it is not implemented yet (same as secrets with goals other than immortality)

@Prismagic Mushroom
I think that the immortal being may not be so friendly anymore for his previous friends, or they might not be friendly to it anymore. That may be a hard break in the fortress development.
JJA726 8 Jan @ 4:58pm
in fact i found two slabs with the same listed effect and neither of them did anything
JJA726 8 Jan @ 4:18pm
I have to ask, do the slabs give you the effect they're supposed to give you if you interact with them in adventure mode?

cause i found one of the slabs of unyielding life and read it, but it didn't do anything

I wish I knew exactly what was triggering this, but somehow I keep having entire dwarven civilizations discovering the Secret to Forging Eternal Life, which does its Thing (tm), and prevents the civ from expanding beyond its initial founding fortress, or at best prevents population growth from happening normally so they get more easily overrun by goblins than usual.

I almost never see any of the other secrets from this mod, it's always the Forge.

Not sure if this is your problem with the necromancer name thing but if you have secrets in world generator set to anything but zero the game will make necromancers from random game generated secrets as well as your custom secret "immortals"
niemst  [author] 22 Nov, 2024 @ 12:59am
@Key Ring
individual is still labelled as a necromancer
Unfortunately it is some build in game mechanic in world generation. It does ignore the mod setting about the individual name
eg:
[CE_DISPLAY_NAME:NAME:The Forged Eternal:The Forged Eternals:forged eternal:START:0:ABRUPT]
If anyone knows the work around please write a comment

Also individuals can learn multiple of the secrets
I added one more requirement for secret discovery to be mortal (and not only forbidding supernatural)
Key Ring 21 Nov, 2024 @ 7:16pm
Also individuals can learn multiple of the secrets. Is it possible to make them mutually exclusive?
Key Ring 21 Nov, 2024 @ 7:13pm
A small bug I've noticed is that after learning any of these secrets, the individual is still labelled as a necromancer. It's not a huge deal but it can be a little confusing.

Great mod though!

Thank you so much.

...
That said due to of nature of some of secrets I added the ability to share them may be limited ;-)
According the modding mechanisms in the game there is also possibility to discover the secret with mundane research - but I have never encounter that (that said I have only 1k h in game so still some things happens that surprise me)
Long story short: just play the game and make the secrets find you ;-)
niemst  [author] 20 Oct, 2024 @ 3:10am
@A Simple Pigeon: Thank you :-)
@Assassin36789: they work same as the vanilla secrets of life and death. The deity may create an artifact slab with the secret that necromancers will learn secret from. Later other can acquire the knowledge from the artifact or those who already know it can teach others (apprentices) or write it down to books. There are some limitation of game mechanics those cause only the dwarf looking for immortality being able to discover secrets. And when you have the original slab in the fortress dwarfs will not read it (but in the adventures mode you can read it) and need a copy or to be taught.

Assassin36789 19 Oct, 2024 @ 4:51pm
How do you find these secrets?
A Simple Pigeon 19 Oct, 2024 @ 7:58am
This is exactly what I've wanted out of More Secrets-type mods. Nice and simple, lightweight, and doesn't try to add an entire new magic system. I've done a few long worldgens and I definitely notice a lot less necro-splosions than I usually have, so it's definitely cutting down on the amount of necromancers in worldgen, not a huge amount but enough that there's not giant clusters of 10 towers together. Thumbs up!
niemst  [author] 18 Oct, 2024 @ 2:41pm
Thanks for the positive vibes :-)
Obsidious 15 Oct, 2024 @ 11:59am
Well, I've certainly learned what The Secret of the Forging of Eternal Life does! Goodness me, some of those entries threw me for a loop. So that's certainly fun so far, though alas it doesn't appear that it limits necromancy too much in the long run.

Excited to see more of this mod come up when I'm playing Fortress and Adventure!
Gavin 13 Oct, 2024 @ 9:19pm
I haven't tried this mod just yet but this sounds perfect! I don't hate necromancers but they are very boring to only have them be the only result of wishing for immortality, so this mod is a great middle ground.
