Updated to 1.6! :Duckie: Also I finally added some preliminary compatibility to that Stone Oven @Blaxpear ... 6 months late. Sorry. :BEgloomy:

The "tribal essentials reborn" mod adds a stone oven to the game, and I would love it if you could add support for that!

@Mad Marl

Pemmican is a survival food, it wasn't made to be delicious lol!

As for the shelf life of a veggy Pemmican? Probably roughly the same as regular stuff. Fat is fat and it doesn't matter if it's derived from animal or plant.

Generally the reason why Pemmican is traditionally made from meat and animal lard + plants was because of availability.

It's not like at the time when Pemmican would have seen active use oil was is such large supplies that it would have been "wasted" on food where hunting and gathering was the main source of food for people.

Basically this is just a "just outside of historic" reason to be able to make Pemmican from plants when realistically people would have just made Bannock or hardtack instead.

Excellent! I believe that makes the mod better overall. Thank you for considering it!

@Moxie I’ve reworked the mod’s functionality to add a 'plain' pemmican recipe (where 'plain' means it’s made from either all meat or all veggies). This recipe unlocks with pemmican research, just like the original. Now, you have the option to make either the classic 50/50 split pemmican or the one-ingredient version.

Something like that. I think it has practical use.
Unon  [author] 22 Oct, 2024 @ 6:31am
@Moxie Ah, I see, you want to basically have the original recipe as well as the new recipe?
Moxie 21 Oct, 2024 @ 6:47pm
Correct, I can. However, if I wanted to use both meat and vegetables, that isn't up to me.
Unon  [author] 20 Oct, 2024 @ 7:13pm
@Moxie You can set the recipe itself to use strictly meat or vegetables in the bills menu?
Mad Marl 20 Oct, 2024 @ 11:40am
ive made pemmican IRL before, its pretty meh flavor wise. vegetarian pemmican sounds awful. though im curious as to what the shelf life would look like using plant-based options in place of fat

Would it be possible to make a recipe that strictly asks for meat, vegetables, or both?

With this mod, it seems like if I specify both meat and vegetables, colonists will just use whatever is closest, making all-meat or all-veg, but almost never both.

Love the history this shares, thanks for citing and creating this.
