@Shadowsyn; To be fair, I would prefer to have it where the infected that are aggroed would fall forward when shot, just to get back up as if it hurt them. It's something that adds to the interactivity of the environment, not so much realism.

Not truly realistic, bullets don't impact that much force to prompt the body to stumble back like that, and most of the time people collapse from the pain when shot but obviously commons don't care about it when running to get you.
So you're looking for the illusive feeling of realism.

@Pie No, but it only works on aggroed infected; the animations do vary through, as the bullets effectively "shove" the infected as if the player did it.

As long as it's not fatal, it will stagger most common infected. If you shoot them from behind, and they are not alert, it usually one-taps them. Essentially, the "flinch" is replaced with the melee stagger, so it should simply be able to happen as often as you shoot them.
