@r.q - thank you! That tells me the problem isn't a mod conflict after all and I was able to find the issue and fix it.

@Oya I was experiencing the same bug, turning off the "Use all texture~~" option in the MOD settings.

@Oya - my suspicion is you've got another mod modifying meals in some way. Move the Food Texture mods to the bottom of your mod list and if that fixes it, let me know what mods you have so I can add it to the load order.

Hey, I'm having this weird bug - https://gyazo.com/3ead1cab6eeba6534e5629c5c550e808
I'm not sure if it's this mod or not, but nothing else I have effects food.

Would love to see support for Sauced Meals!
Gorlath 6 Jan @ 1:04pm
Great mod! Any chance of support for VGP Vegetable Garden?

I hope you do a Medieval Themed Variety mod one day :)

@NoOne_ReaVen wait, they do? I've been running VTE the entire time with this, and I don't think I noticed it.
potato404 10 Nov, 2024 @ 12:42am
I love this mod, it's awesome !!
NoOne_ReaVen 10 Nov, 2024 @ 12:34am
Is it safe to run this with vanilla textures expanded, as they also do some "variation" on meal graphics?
FaintingGoat  [author] 9 Nov, 2024 @ 8:11pm
@RowanSkie - what I'm working on next is going to be a mod that replaces all the base game meals - including carnivore, vegetarian, and survival. And it'll be a patch operation so it'll be a replacement. I just need a bit of time to finish making textures for everything.
Rowan Skye 9 Nov, 2024 @ 5:50pm
Can you make a lite version that replaces the basegame meals? Otherwise it's a really good mod right now.
Naturtok 6 Nov, 2024 @ 8:46pm
holy hell, you really are the fainting G.O.A.T. !!
FaintingGoat  [author] 6 Nov, 2024 @ 6:38pm
Well.... I know I said I wasn't going to do ingredient specific textures but I had a flash of insight on how to do it in a way that was easy to manage and now it's a thing. There's not many of them, but the mod can support random textures by ingredient.

So @hekmo, it's now based on what's in the meal, but then falls back to completely random if an ingredient-specific texture doesn't exist.
Rowan Skye 6 Nov, 2024 @ 6:36pm
I will admit I thought this would replace the default meals. Now I have variety though!
hekmo 5 Nov, 2024 @ 4:56pm
Hey! I'm working on a meal renaming mod that I think would have some really cool interactions with yours. Are your textures completely random or based on what's in the meal?

oooh interesting! Thanks for the explanation :)
FaintingGoat  [author] 1 Nov, 2024 @ 3:03pm
Here's the technical explanation you probably weren't asking for! When RimWorld creates the graphics class, it doesn't have a concept of what that thing is. It's got a request and that contains a folder to find the texture in and a whole bunch of info about how to render the graphic, but I'm not seeing anything that looks the thing that has the ingredients. So it just loads all the textures in the folder. When it goes to get a texture, it does know what kind of object it's getting a texture for, but since those textures were loaded naively into a single bucket... I just override how it grabs a texture and I pick one randomly out of the bucket.

I could do something that arranges those textures so that they can be found by ingredient, but that introduces a whole mess of things to worry about and I'm now overriding something that's kind of low-level in how RimWorld manages graphics. I'm not sure I want to write and maintain something that's going to be a lot more finicky.
Naturtok 1 Nov, 2024 @ 1:56pm
i dunno if this is even possible, but would it be possible to sync the texture with that mod that renames the meal based on what the ingredients are, if present, and then spit out a random texture if there isn't a match?
basedleua 1 Nov, 2024 @ 1:39am
Looks great can you make it compatible with gourmet meals from vanilla cooking expanded ?
5150 31 Oct, 2024 @ 6:51am
I've really been waiting and waiting for this mod.
PersonPerson 29 Oct, 2024 @ 11:05pm
This is cool as hell :steamhappy:
FaintingGoat  [author] 29 Oct, 2024 @ 8:51pm
@Haggler - I'll probably do that as a separate module here as it'll need a patch. Trying to let folks decide how much they want to change, rather than having one giant mod that does everything.
Haggler 29 Oct, 2024 @ 7:52pm
Nutrient Paste Textures?
Inked. 28 Oct, 2024 @ 10:00pm
This is great! I've always liked the idea of having my pawns eat with more variety but hate the micromanagement that comes with different recipes that come from cooking mods. Throw in the variety mod from the VE team and it's wonderful enhancement.
Lonely Knightess 28 Oct, 2024 @ 3:58pm
This is lovely, great work!!
Prosp3t 28 Oct, 2024 @ 12:13pm
the simple meal textures are just the average north american school lunch:Hand_Shake:

newest first brings bangers
JuStaJOkEGuY559 25 Oct, 2024 @ 3:38pm
This is very good
FaintingGoat  [author] 25 Oct, 2024 @ 10:37am
@Redd - these aren't any different from any other custom meal. The only thing that's changed is how a graphic is selected, which doesn't change the data around what they are and how they're treated by storage. But just in case, I subscribed to Ideology Storage here and tried it out. No issues.
Redd 25 Oct, 2024 @ 10:05am
Very interesting mod, I do like the concept, and am very excited for even more variety after this. I have to ask, how does it work with Adaptive Storage? More specifically, Adaptive Ideology Storage, as that has meal crates that show the meal type within it.
