I agree that I prefer a more authentic appearance for troops (and generals and faction leaders, but we have to deal with the hand we've been dealt), but I also don't mind a healthy level of leeway and speculation. The historical artefacts and records we have are only a fraction of all there used to be, and surely don't represent every outlying case. Maybe a few warriors were wealthy enough to commission some extra protection for themselves, or could only salvage a basic khopesh, etc. Not every second man, but a subtly noticeable amount.
It would be one hell of an ask, but if this were to become a modder's resource of edited models, that'd help add a lot of variety to the game, especially if we won't see many more updates or official content packs.
A lot of ingame models would be pretty accurate but they have a bunch of pauldrons added for no reason.
