reguarding the key, it is situated underneath a desk lamp, which i assumed would be obvious to the player, but I guess not, you are not the first to mention that, I will fix this.
I plan on releasing a fix for the HL2 version to fix the gameplay, and implement a proper ending, i also have other projects in the work which are vastly more thought and fleshed out, gm_pushit for hl2 and gmod, and "Half-Life: Sleep Deprived" a mod for the original half-life.
thanks for the feedback, and take care...
Additionally, adding a small glow to the key and case file would make them both easier to notice.
Finally, maybe im just dumb, but adding a proper end level when returning to the car after obtaining the casefile would be a nice final touch up.
I will say it would be nice if there was more indication within the level itself what to do upon opening the cell. While it is more obvious if you have previously played hotline miami, it wouldn't hurt to clarify to hit the guy with the crowbar in some way for those who either haven't, or been a while since they last played.
Additionally, it appears the text sometimes bugs out and the dialogue about getting the case file doesn't display correctly.
