Mod breaks units in general. Can't use it if I want to expand my empire past the first city.

@longulus I've seen this. That's actually the explorer unit, it seems to have adopted the skin of a soldier. I find that really confusing in the game to be honest as I just confuse it with soldiers, and also there is no animation to show that you are excavating a site with it either

I tried using it with RT and my soldier unit didn't embark properly...they just walked on the water even though the embarkation technology hadn't been researched yet.

Yeah, interest in mods for this game is low enough that I'm likely to focus on updating broken Civ 5 mods first. This will be updated at some point, but it will be a while.

You could definitely give a perk that boosted artifact-finding; if it affected non-explorers who (for example) pillage nests, this would be highly-inelegant but not game-breaking? Turning into a submarine <- issue is, I really want to be able to explore the arctic and right now explorers can't cross the sea ice? I mean, arctic explorers is a whole THING and you can't do it, it irritates me. So since I believe submarines can cross ice squares, that's really what I meant. But invisibility would be a nice ability for high-end explorers as well, of course.

RT version is coming sometime, but no ETA. I will likely rework a lot of the perks to make high-Affinity Explorers a sort of support unit. I'll go over your suggestions:
bonus chance to finding artifacts: I dunno if it's doable without replacing Artifacts.lua, but I like the idea.
bonus to yield from pillaging nests: might work okay for Purity, but I've got better ideas for them. Harmony is better at keeping nests around now, so i won't replace their current ability with this one
won't be attacked by aliens: probably going to be one of the first choosable perks.
reduced damage from leashing: dunno if it's possible, but good one.
is a submarine while embarked: Don't like this one. Lot of complicated code would be involved, would probably be buggy.
spotting invisible units: good idea.

I've got some ideas myself, including giving orbital coverage within the explorer's line of vision as a high-level supremacy perk.

One of my favorite mods, and I also got RT for xmas so would love to see it patched/ported/updated. FWIW, some feedback: the bonus pods (purity 2) and the firaxite (supremacy 2) are kinda-broken. Some suggested perks for an RT version: bonus chance to finding artifacts, bonus to yield from pillaging nests, won't be attacked by aliens (I think still in the code just not used), reduced damage from leashing, is a submarine while embarked (might be hard to code?), bonus to nearby air combat, is a carrier (would probably be broken), spotting invisible units (submarines)? I kinda think all high-level explorers should spot submarines, actually. Anyway, thanks again for an awesome mod!

So the explorers actually have the same unit flag as the marines with this mod in RT?
I've actually been given RT as a gift so I'll be looking into this mod again at some point, will have to figure out what would cause that.

Will also need to make a new ability for Harmony 2 explorers since Alien Leashing is now a thing. I wouldn't expect an update for a little while yet though.

That's a bug with Rising Tide it seems. I use it with Immersive Armies, which overrides it back to the basic explorer visuals.

Fun fact: I learned to mod Civ5/BE a little bit to try to fix this. No luck yet :D

From what I've seen, this mod is compatible with RT; I also had several other mods running, and I had no stability issues overall.

I liked this mod, for with the upgrades, my units weren't so vulnerable to the alien threat in the late game. However, from the get go, I didn't like that the unit utilized the same badge and 3D model as the basic melee unit; I frequently confused the Explorer with the Soldier. Frankly, I'd be fine if the upgradeable Explorer retained the original Explorer look throughout the game.

Sorry to come off like that, I mean they aren't going to fix it, to bad as I love your mods. Makes no sense why they are ignoring the crappy modding in the game. Modding keeps the game relevant and interesting for fk sake. I havent played BE hardly at all mainly cause your excellent mods wont work.

You were hoping they would fix it, I bet you posted in the right thread to. Sadly the trick clearing cache worked a couple of times and was to frustrating to keep doing. Vice you are very good at what you do man, again sorry I made it sound like I was giving you shit.

BERT is fun, regardless of the crappy modding. Im actually enjoying myself but again there are issues. AI is not the smartest. lol

Well, don't blame me for a bug Firaxis has refused to fix for over a year now. Don't feel like dropping $30 for an expansion which doesn't even fix multiple well-known modding bugs, when I could spend a little over a third of that and get Endless Legend: Shadows like I've been meaning to.

No it doesn't work correctly with Rising Tide. It makes the unit menu disappear, like many of your mods dude. Firaxis is NOT going to fix this issue either. Doing that trick you discribed doesnt work for your mods all the time and frustrating to deal with.

Fact is you have a good mod but breaks the game when used most of the time.

BERT is far better then BE, why arent you getting it? It actually make BE fun to play lol

So far it looks like it is working with Rising Tide. The only thing that is broken are the unit models for the explorer are all defaulting to the basic soldier model.

How many Expeditions do you legitimately think you can find after you've reached Affinity...what is it, 11? I forgot, I haven't played this game in close to a year. It'll generally be pretty difficult to even get 6 Firaxite out of the deal.

It's Firaxis's bug, not mine. Every other mod which adds new unit promotions to the game will have the same issue. Maybe RT will fix it, but I dunno.

yeah unloading then reloading my game to fix the unit panel is a hassle to just play the game, hopefully you can get this fixed soon.

Holy... its probably the game type I was playing (massive map with only 4 players, awesome pods), but that Firaxite for expeditions buff got me dozens of the stuff, which is nice,as before I started popping out Orbital Foundries I had basically none, while Floatstone was in almost too high supply.

Hey, I've encountered an issue that occurs while this mod and only this mod are active. When I'm in-game, the unit panel doesn't show up anymore (the thing on the bottom left with all the buttons).

I've also seen this with a couple of other mods, and this bug only shows up once every time I start the game up. After loading or starting a game with the mod, then quiting back to the main menu, the bug doesn't occur again until I restart the game (which is probably why it didn't show up while you were testing).

I have no idea what causes it, but my current theory is that it's related to some sort of memory glitch, and probably something to do with a string somewhere.

I think that harmony is more about adapting alien traits (as opposed to machine traits or keeping humanity pure) than trying to not have impact on the ecosystem. Choosing to be anything else than the apex predator in the ecosystem doesn't really make sense either.

Harmony is already encouraged to destroy alien nests so it can build Xenomass Wells. (you can leave the Alien Nest on it, but the yields from the XW with its corresponding buildings are a much better benefit than blue aliens.) Harmony, despite its name, is depicted more along the lines of humans forcibly adapting their biology to that of the aliens, rather than any sort of actual Harmony with them. Space ASPCA, they ain't.

Man, explorers are the coolest the unit in the game. I think I want to play or perhaps make a mod where you play as an explorer vet supporting an AI faction.

I don't play this game anymore, but when I did, Ryika's Aggressive Wildlife and Shadow's Alien Strains were both great for the job. Dunno how the patch has changed them.
