Maybe someday i'll go back to my roots and make a better horror map, it's not entirely out of the question, just not my priority at the moment, but i'll consider making my new map have a horrorish section further in :P
Thank you for the encouragement! :)
Also, sad that you won't deal with horror, it was actually done nicely, I prefer that over "Liminal Maps", it's why I wanted to try this one.
Still, good journey with your maps, they'll be great for sure!
2. It's a really niche reference so just noclip on inside, there's no actual way to access it.
3. Liminal maps? Possibly! Horror? Not so much, And I won't be using CSGO or CSS assets any time soon because I wanna truly attempt to make my maps unique.
It's very nice, I sure like it a lot, it has a great creepy factor to it. My question is, how many "entities" are there in this map? Looks like there's 3?
Also, how do I get into the "purple room" that looks like a Mario kart course?
Do you have plans to make more maps like these? I'd rather not use CSGO content since it takes up some space.
Means it cant easily go on servers, etc
Not sure if you knew they're there to find, but there's tools and stuff that find the origin of every model, texture, and automatically pack in only the required models.
Not a mapper, but i know they've been made, and they work lol
A labyrinth of paradoxical false comforts, things that seem so dearly familiar yet impossibly distant, layouts and designs you've seen before --- but never could work --- a liminal hellscape of brutal peace in familiar unfamiliarity. Everything is similar: but completely unique. Have you been here before? Is there something following you? Each and every step the encroaching atmosphere plays tricks on your weary mind, causing you to question your own sense of direction. It can't get much worse than getting lost --- at least --- until you realize you're not alone.
I would recommend this as more than a map, but a genuine horror experience --- and one made in garry's mod, of all things.
Oh, and things will kill you. Better hope you can react faster than I can...
At first I was unsure if I would like a map where the entities were actually out to kill you but I actually thought it worked well, I also like how that was acknowledged in a particular scene, I like the idea of game worlds where respawning is a canon/in universe thing and haven’t actually seen that sort of thing done much.
Theres probably more events to find, which I’m sure Thunder can help me with, I would certainly be interested in any lore you have for the map/entities.
Planning to make at least some fanart but maybe a comic or something based on the silly ideas and shenanigans the map gave me.
Just finished playing through the main “story” (although not entirely sure if that’s the correct word ^^’) and I like what this map did it set out to try something new from your standard liminal horror maps and I think it accomplished that task well.
I’m also very happy to see a map that brings meta themes in its one of my favourite themes and I had yet to see a gmod map which used the awareness that it’s a game in the story and I think it was well done.
If I ever do manage to learn hammer I might take a bit of inspiration since I was also wanting to do something similar.
the mere suggestion of presence of the anomalies greatly increased the tension far beyond most other maps, which was a good choice. they all have unique encounters and designs, my only complaint (which might be a matter of taste) is that getting killed broke the tension that was so skillfully built up through the map. it might be better to have at least a few of them deal smaller but frequent amounts of damage instead?
regardless: the atmosphere and design are by far the standouts here and everything works extremely well. there's a lot I could say about the moment to moment but I've said enough in this mini-review. thanks for your work on this :3
