the alternative way to solve it is to put everything back to 2 turns recruitment, and only make it so the player can do it in 1 turn or less. trouble with that is, well its a nerf to the difficulty level if the ai cant do it as well... ill look into it when i start playing this game again

In lieu of modifying the AI so that it assembles armies more sensibly (which I guess is beyond the scope of this mod?), across the board would probably be a good idea - the Delmatae seem to be even worse now, just threw an 80% Southern Illyrian Levy army at me.

Let me know if you want to take a peek at my save btw.

oi, i hadn't experienced this. it can be fixed, probably by putting velites back to 2 turn recruitment. but that suggests that ill need to do it across the board.

will have to look deeper into this, keep me posted on your findingas as well. :lunar2020halodragon::steamthumbsup:

Loving the mod, playing a Sparta campaign with it at the moment. Only problem is that the AI seems to recruit way too many of the faster recruitment time units, Roman armies for example are around 50% Velites... Can this be fixed?

i might have a look at it, if it requires updating. im not playing this game right now, so i rely on folks like you to keep me informed when updates etc come out.

cheers :lunar2020halodragon::steamthumbsup:

This is an awesome mod i hope after the RIS update that you update this as well. hopefully it wont be too much work cause its really nice
ralphcarlock 5 Feb @ 7:20am
The Illyrian Noble Spearmen work just fine in campaign. I did notice the Massilote General's Bodyguard could also use the phalanx and again thank you for this amazing mod.
ralphcarlock 28 Jan @ 9:04am
it works in custom battle, I will update you on campaign functionality when I have more time and again thank you, it's fun to have a challenge in a otherwise infantry roster that can be easily bulldozed with a Greek phalanx. I struggled in a one on one Battle using Spartans but by Zeus they conquered.

done!, needs testing. :lunar2020halodragon::steamthumbsup:

Illyrian Noble Spearmen
Austere Hare  [author] 27 Jan @ 9:59am
i can add phalanx, but could you specifically point out the units? im elbow deep in other games :lunar2020halodragon:
ralphcarlock 27 Jan @ 8:48am
The southern Illyrians were heavily Hellenized especially at this time of the game's setting and I'm sure the lower ranks of spear men still fought in a less civilized manner however the nobility and the guards of nobility probably used hoplons and of course the phalanx. It would make those tribes more of a challenge when using Eprius, Macedon, or any Greek City State that wanted to make the Adriatic coast it's their own. The Illyrians served in Alexander's conquest of Persia but I'm sure how they were utilized. The Illyrian helmet also was widely used among the Greek armies.

Thank you so much it really helps with the immersion :steamhappy:

@RalphCarlock Updated! :lunar2020halodragon::steamthumbsup:
ralphcarlock 17 Jan @ 12:04am
Could you add the phalanx to some of Carthage's units like The Sacred Band of Baal and the Libyo-Phoenician Infantry I would love to test Greek might against their phalanxes
Austere Hare  [author] 14 Jan @ 11:02pm
I might change the setting for population redistribution to go where generals are stationed like original rome.

Currently it is set to redistribute slaves equally among your other cities. :lunar2020halodragon:

let me know if there is any prefernce

I just think that that's one of the things that Rome 1 did better than Rome 2, though I think that could be rectified with Troy and Pharaoh's whole weapon switching mechanic. But I digress.

But I know what you mean.

I just wish that more modders would keep something like hoplites and similar units being able to use phalanxes but having swords out of formation, as it gives them a bit of extra flavor and versatility.
Austere Hare  [author] 11 Jan @ 2:17pm
I know what you mean, but honestly the hoplites are still decent with spears out of formation. especially against cavalry. i dont think its as simple as adding swords as a secondary weapon, in order to get them to show up as fighting with swords, i think might require a new unit model. that a bit above my modding paygrade at the moment.

Such a hoplite does exist already in my "RXQOL" mod for rome expanded.

ill look into it, because, I too would like an elite hoplite with a sword secondary weapon, in RIS

barring that, the greek swordman role you seek might be filled by the thorakitai, who fight a bit like a greek hastati. :lunar2020halodragon:
chubbyninja89 (TNB) 11 Jan @ 1:58pm
Oh, ok.

I was really hoping that someone would actually give the hoplites back their secondary swords, so at least the more elite ones wouldn't be helpless out of formations and all.
Austere Hare  [author] 11 Jan @ 1:46pm
@chubbyninja Just put this mod above RIS. (put it at the very top if you are having trouble)

there is a lot of hoplite variety in the base RIS mod, so the answer elusive but, NO, most hoplites do not have swords.

when out of phalanx, they fight as individuals with shield and spear, not dissimilar to gaul spearmen. :lunar2020halodragon::steamthumbsup:
chubbyninja89 (TNB) 11 Jan @ 11:46am
I have to ask.

In which order do I put these mods when trying to launch the game?

Because I know that it's dumbly different from the more modern TW games, where you can just turn on mods together without worrying too much.

And as a secondary question.

Do the hoplites who have the phalanx formation have swords as backup weapons?
Austere Hare  [author] 10 Jan @ 4:10pm
ill add testudo to the skiritai in the neqt update :lunar2020halodragon::steamthumbsup:
ralphcarlock 10 Jan @ 4:11am
Thank you so much I love this mod
Austere Hare  [author] 10 Jan @ 2:30am
Mod is updated. :lunar2020halodragon:

but a couple notes: all hoplite phalanxes have the distinction of being a short-pike phalanx. (more maneuverable, faster response, and more adaptable, but will get decimated by a long-pike phalanx head-on (Macedonian-styled phalangites))

note: the Spartan skirtai use swords, and do not get phalanx. :steamsad:

Spartan general's bodyguard is a proper slow long-pike phalanx, and will decimate standard short-pike hoplite phalanxes.

As well as the exotic axe-weilding "essian hoplites". -- no phalanx with axes. :steamfacepalm:

there are a few weird units in RIS like the Syracusan hoplites: these units throw javalins then fight with spears. I have given them the short-pike phalanx, but they will break out of it to throw their spears, so they may need to be managed differently on the field than standard hoplites. :steamfacepalm:
Austere Hare  [author] 10 Jan @ 12:38am
@ ralphcarlock

OK, i found a few spartans that definitely need phalanx, first being : homoioi, and the skiritai.

I also made the footmen spear general;s bodyguard phalanx. however i couldnt find any others, the periokoi i had already put phalanx on.

thanks for helping me patch this oversight, and let me know if there are any more you find. i specifically targetted hoplites and there were loads in RIS cuz the mod is huge. I'm certain to have missed others.

Cheers. :KneelingBow:

side note: from my research, the skiritai only number around 600. (maybe 6 units in all of spartan armies). and they historically specifically protected the far left of the phalanx. (the dangerous side)

so put the skirtai on the left! and build no more than 6 :lunar2020halodragon:
ralphcarlock 9 Jan @ 9:18pm
can you please add the phalanx to Spartan units?
ralphcarlock 9 Jan @ 9:07pm
I won't forget make sacrifice at the temple of Athena, thank you for the awesome mod
Aristoxenus 9 Jan @ 3:53am
Thats awesome pal!
I love your enthusiasm on Ancient Greeks.
I Myself have the same enthusiasm and it englobes the Medieval Greeks (Byzantines) and as non-Hellenics, I love the Ancient Iberians, you know the factions that no vanilla producers give any love or that few producers give? Yeah this culture.
Austere Hare  [author] 8 Jan @ 1:29am
@ Aristoxenus, hoplites are unchanged stat-wise...
just added a phalanx button.

(hoplites were historically known to fight both in and out of phalanx, so this was changed to match

i have some phalanx tactics that even the romans have a hard time with, and pikemen are few and far between so hoplites fill in and allow for a phalanx line.

Alexander approves. :lunar2020halodragon:
Aristoxenus 7 Jan @ 3:22pm
Only Hoplite units? Are they just buffed or a new different unit?
sselwal 7 Jan @ 11:14am
Appreciated. Thanks. Using it now for my Pergamon run through.
